Though you are right about sending players down.
One D HAS to be sent down which saves another 900k (775k in Potter's case).
So if we don't want to add the bonuses onto next year... we have 1.3 million + 900k if we send Larsen down to get to 23 players on the active roster = 2.2 million in space.
-Sign Malhotra to 1.3 million (2.2 - 1.3 = 900k in space + 900k from Lander being sent down to the AHL to get us back to 23 players) gives us 1.8 million in cap space again

So we'd still have 1.8 million to work with. We could realistically send down Potter and save another 775k = 2.5 million in space to sign someone else.... maybe Raymond or Mueller would take a 2 million/1 year offer and we'd have the 500k extra for wiggle room

Go into the season with
Hall/Gagner/Yakupov
Perron/Nuge/Eberle
Mueller/Gordon/Hemsky
Joensuu/Malhotra/Jones
Smyth and Brown

Petry and Smid
JSchultz and Ference
Belov and NSchultz

They do have the $2M bonus space to push it to next year. Agreed they likely won't/shouldn't though. In addition to the 3 you mentioned Shultz and Lander likely get raises too.

It's still possible as he has an nhl out clause. Unlikely though as they probably would have signed him by now if they were going to.

That's ugly. Clearly there isn't the interest in Mueller, that's fine. But Malhotra is DONE, finished AT HOCKEY. So he should stop being considered an option for anyone in the NHL.

I thought Malholtra was still wanting to play this season. Wouldn't hurt to give him a PTO and see how he does.

I hope MacT is at least expressing interest in Cleary. He'll likely sign elsewhere if the opportunity is there, but he'd be a decent pick-up for our bottom 6.

I use to slag Cleary when he played for the Oilers. My, how times have changed but I don't think he'd come back here anyway.

Pittsburgh apparently asked Crosby to go and talk to him, Maybe MacT/Lowe can ask Gretz for another favor

Mikkel Boedker's 2 year deal with PHX is now complete. AAV of $2.55M.

We have $2.85M in bonuses counting against next year so far. So we have an additional $2M in cap space to use this year. The contract can be set up as mostly bonus money. Ie what Boston did with Iginla's contract: $1,800,000 salary + $4,200,000 (easily attainable bonuses) = $6,000,000.

Plus we can send down a player like Larsen to save another $900K in cap space. ($1,025M - ($550k + $375k)) = $100k cap hit and $900k cap space. http://www.capgeek.com/new-cba/

The Oilers have at least $4.25M to sign a UFA.
The Oilers are already over the 64.3M, and are using the performance cushion, but they have so many bonuses they aren't allowed to go over the cap by the full amount of their bonuses, which means it's a bit more difficult to get into overage penalties than it is for other teams. Teams only push performance bonuses into the next year if they are earned, and if the bonuses result in the team going over the cap in the current year.

I think

Perron RNH Eberle
Hall Gagner Yakupov
Jones Gordon Hemsky
Jonesuu Smyth Brown

Smid Petry
Ference J. Schultz
N. Schultz Grebeshkov
Belov

Is pretty much the opening night roster assuming RNH is ready. Maybe a coach's favorite like Will Acton gets the 4th line C spot, but that's about it.

He's pretty adamant that he's not finished playing. RT @davegisaac: Word is the Flyers have invited 38-year-old Hal Gill to training camp.

Not sure if McKenzie's information is current but he's saying RNH will likely miss Oct.

Things sounded good last week but you have to think McKenzie deserves the benefit of the doubt.

@TSNBobMcKenzie
EDM, likely without Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (shoulder rehab) for month of October, will at least try Hall and Gagner as top 2 centres.

Without RNH for the first month, expect:

Perron-Gagner-Eberle
Yakupov-Hall-Hemsky
Jones-Gordon-Joensuu
Smyth-Lander-Brown

or something of that effect, maybe Arcobello instead of Lander

No the Oiler currently have $1.3M not $2M. You get this by taking their total commitments including bonuses and subtracting the $4.8M cap cushion.

Edited for correctness.

I don't think MacKenzie's information is current. RNH has been participating in on-ice team work-outs with some of the guys. Why would he partake in that, taking shots, if his shoulder wasn't good to go?

I would wait until we get word from the Oilers that he's out. Not an insider, as connected as MacKenzie seems to be.

Fear not, HFOil.

If Wade Redden plays in the minors in 2012-13, he counts as follows.
$6.5M – [ $525,000 + $375,000 ] = $5.6M
As the min salary this year is $550k it becomes the following for Larsen
($1,025M - ($550k + $375k)) = $100k cap hit and $900k cap space

You didn't read the post I replied to. Agreed that the Oilers have $1.35M. I'm saying that we have more if we send someone down. Plus we have more if we use the performance bonus cushion. We can use up to $4.225M in performance bonus cushion.

My understanding from http://www.capgeek.com/oilers is that the Oilers currently are spending the following (scroll to below the roster players):

Salary Cap $64,300,000
Salary Payroll $58,841,666
Cap Payroll $67,774,167
Bonuses $9,150,000
Cap Space $1,348,333

Is this not your understanding?
