My understanding from http://www.capgeek.com/oilers is that the Oilers currently are spending the following (scroll to below the roster players):

Salary Cap $64,300,000
Salary Payroll $58,841,666
Cap Payroll $67,774,167
Bonuses $9,150,000
Cap Space $1,348,333

Is this not your understanding?
Yes, but that includes the bonus cushion. Take $64.3-(67.774-4.8225)=$1.35M

And yes you are right, if they send down Larsen they will gain $925K. Potter would also save some. But at best you may get to $3M and you are risking a cap penalty next year if you spend too much of that.

No problem. This talk of cap space is likely irrelevant anyways as it doesn't seem like we'll be adding anyone anytime soon.

Got ya. I was looking at the 2014-2015 bonus cap hit and thinking it was the overage when it was the cap hit for the bonuses from that season. Thanks for clarifying.

Homer still loving playing Mr. Smarty Pants at the draft, obviously. I hope the real call they get is from the league when they're still over the cap come season's start.

Hopefully he's fallen into some humility. Maybe he'd be a little faster on the ice if he didn't have to drag around as big of an ego.

Also Gregor just said on his show that talking to RNH, his recovery is right on schedule which means he probably misses a handful of games at most.

We've all been told except you. The presser said, "We wanted to inform all of our fans except that HF Boards Replacement guy because then he'll find something else to ***** about. Please don't tell him."

We're just doing what we've been told by the Oilers brass, sorry.

TC won't be starting until the Rookie tourny is done, some of these guys will be attending the main camp before they go back to JR and such. Expect an announcement in the next day or two. Also the first two days of TC are usually closed to public anyway as its just player physicals and fitness testing.

Just doing more experimenting:

Perron-RNH-Eberle
Omark-Hall-Hemsky
Jones-Gagner-Yakupov
Smyth-Gordon-Brown
Joensuu/Lander

I could live with that perhaps.

I'd still prefer signing a Prospal or trading for a guy like Mark Letestu out of CBJ. Add someone for the 3rd line/PK, or to replace Omark if he doesn't prove he's good enough.

Oil fans are panicking on Twitter because MacTavish said something about early November this afternoon. I'm pretty sure that he was talking about the worst case scenario again.

Sounds like MacT and the Oilers are going to be cautious with RNH and likely keep him out for the October games.

That's a very prudent idea... you want to err on the safe side and make sure he's 100% when he comes back... I have no problem with that at all and think it's a smart move.

Gagner
Arcobello
Gordon
Lander-Acton-Miller/whatever

That's what I'm guessing we'll see down the middle for the month of October.

Of course if they move a winger over to play C instead then that opens up another winger spot... could see Eager or Ryan Hamilton on the roster in that case.

There's a tier 1 fan, tier 2, tier 3 and then "the Replacement"

I'm all for being cautious but MacTavish NEEDS to invite a centre to training camp if he's planning on keeping Nugent-Hopkins out. That's just the bottom line.

Eakins to MacT- "Hey, sounds like RNH might miss the first month, should we bring in another center just incase?"

MacT- "Hold on, I know who to ask"
...
Tambellini answers his phone.
-"Hello?"

MacT- "Hey Tambo, just need some advice about managing this hockey team as I've never done this before."

Tambo -"My specialty, go ahead."

MacT- "When Horcoff was injured, did you bring in another center to fill in?"

Tambo- "Huh?"

MacT- "Did you bring in a center?"

Tambo- "Why?"

MacT- "When Horc got injured?"

Tambo- "What are you talking about?"

MacT hangs up phone.
...
MacT to Eakins- "Yeah we'll be fine."

That has to be the worst starting 4 centers on any roster in the NHL.
