It still puzzling to me how Marleau gets left off the Orientation, and Thornton is there. Thornton was terrible on the big ice in 2006 in Italy, was not overly impressive in Vancouver, and i thought Marleau actually played decent in Vancouver and still has the speed on the big ice that merited his invite to camp.

I do think J. Schultz and RNH have a far-outside shot at making the squad, but only because they have the pedigree/skill for a major breakout season. Its possible that neither of them manage that type of season, and even if they do its possible they still get passed on for other options - but most players not in camp are long-shots and i'd say they have a better than 0 chance at it.

Jamie Benn: big,mobile,skilled and versatile.

On top of that:
Plays wing, has relentless puck pursuit and would be outstanding in a checking line role with his skill set.

Benn Bergeron Richards

Would be an ideal checking line internationally IMO

Seguin on large ice was fantastic last year before the season started. Top goal scorer in the league, had a hard time adjusting to the smaller ice after I would say.
Kid has all the potential to not only make the team but be an impact player. One of the fastest players in the league.

That list is downright bizarre.

Pascal Dupuis and Derek Brassard as players who could make Team Canada?

And then no mention of Jamie Benn, who is probably by far the most popular darkhorse forward people think could make the team.

No Evander Kane, but they list Dupuis and Brassard ...

That's awful.

Actually only Crosby and Stamkos post lockout have scored at a higher ppg. It really makes no sense why he didn't atleaset get an invite. Last time he was healthy only Giroux, and Stamkos outscored him. Crosby had a better ppg though.

He says he is healthy there is a good chance he will be top 5 in scoring this season when they announce the team.

Totally agree with this. Didn't Marleau also get a lot of ice time in 2010? That shows that Babcock somewhat had some confidence in him. I just pray they don't pick Jumbo Joe this time around because I paid very close attention to him in 2010 and he wasn't all that great...

Cam Ward not getting an invite was strange too. This is a goalie who won a gold on at the world championships on big ice and has also played fairly well the past two seasons.

It's an article in globe and mail, on iPad so can't copy and paste the link.

Edit: Here's the link

Anyways, I think it's a pretty good add on list to the 47 invites. Can't really think of a glaring omission.

Thoughts?
Fixed

Surprised Marleau was not invited. He was very good in the last olympics, and has played well for Canada on the big ice at the WC's in his career. He deserved at least an invite.

Thought Spezza deserved the invite at least... just cuz he always seems to be that odd man out, and he has been around for quite a while with not much to show! Bet you the guy is hungry.
