Taylor Leier (LW, 2012 draft choice) signed to an entry level contract

Quote:
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Taylor Leier took a puck to the face Sunday and needed 12 stitches on his lower cheek to close the wound.

He tweeted out a photo of the damage, and as expected had a bit of a scowl on his grill.

It's a good bet the cut hurts just a little bit less today.

That's because Leier, 19, signed his entry-level contract with the Flyers Monday.

The Flyers have really been impressed with Leier's progression since drafting him in the fourth round (No. 117 overall) in the 2012 NHL Entry draft.
Quote:
Leier puts the Flyers at the 50-contract limit this season, however he now joins two other players - Scott Laughton and Anthony Stolarz - on a list of prospects who can have their contracts slide to next season because they remain junior eligible.

As a result the Flyers still have room to add two or three contracts (depends on Laughton making the roster) to the organization if they so choose.

if he works on everything to go with his offensive game he could turn out to be pretty good.

he took a big concussion in junior from Dalton Thrower so he needs to be smart about his health.

The Flyers seem to really like him.

I think he can carve out a nice bottom 6 career. Seems to have very good skating ability, and is a 2 way player.

I love it when I get the chance to watch our prospects locally! Plus Winterhawk games are generally a blast.

Right on!!!! Leier is a real solid prospect with great speed, good hands, great defensive awareness and a solid team guy. His upside could be that of a Matt Read if given the opportunity to play in an offensive role. At the very least, you've got a replacement for Max Talbot in the system. Good signing. Glad to see Leier got a contract. That 2012 draft is going to go down as being a very important draft for the Flyers. It's possible that there could be five, maybe six players signed from that draft.

Big WHL watcher here: The concussion was no fault of Leier's. Thrower is a known dirty player, and got suspended for the Leier hit.

To actually add to the conversation, Leier is a really solid player, it wouldn't surprise me at all if he turns into a very solid 3C for you guys down the line.

Another kid flying under the radar in our prospect pool. Could see him being a good third line presence in the future.

Noebels-Laughton-Leier could be really, really solid.

Well I was wrong, I thought the concussion would make hard for him to earn a contract but I'm glad to be wrong seeing as I really like Leier.

The 2012 draft class is shaping up to possibly being a good one for the Flyers.

Pronman always states how he was a steal in the 4th round. Love this kid.
