All this is for is so we can have a good camp and preseason with the amount of players we need. It's not like Whitney is gonna be suiting up and playing top minutes for us throughout the regular season. It does not really matter.
That may be true. But I'm not a Whitney fan at all.

It's just a warm body to fill up camp. JBo played on the right side in Calgary, I'm sure he could handle it again if necessary. Hopefully it just doesn't come to that.

Only RHD I see available that isn't garbage is Ian White, and he's meh. So not a big deal.

Plus, Cole can also play the right side.

Bouwmeester-Shattenkirk
Jackman-Polak
Leopold-Cole
Whitney

But I don't even see how it could come to that. If the Blues and Petro are only 1 mil apart like it's being reported by McKenzie, it'd be completely insane for him to miss any games. Meeting in the middle just should not be that difficult, but we'll see.

Agreed. Even if it's not in the middle and is closer to 6.75 per, I can't imagine Army playing hardball that long. He obviously knows how important Petro is to this team.

Exactly. And if you told me at the beginning of the summer that Petro's contract would be for 6.75 mil, I'd still be VERY happy with that. That's fair value.

Really love that they both want an 8 year deal and are only 1 million apart. This will get done as Petro has to want to play in Olympics and Blues want him in lineup for most of camp.

I was worried the differences they had were short term vs. long term.

I do think they will meet in middle and Army wont go to 6.75 just based on AP having no leverage.

After my last post about them "only" being a million apart per year, I realized how much apart they could be. It's a million a year, but it's 8 million more over the 8 years. I could see why it would be hard for Petro to leave that on the table and why the two sides will probably negotiate up till the wire (whatever that may be).

So if Petro isn't signed by the season opener, who do we point our pitchforks at? Petro's agent? Petro himself? Armstrong? Stillman?

Probably a combination of the three, excluding Stillman - I think he gets a pass. Sure, he could tell Armstrong to just get it done at the price Petro demands, but that is messing with the GM's job and Armstrong's entire philosophy. So - we'll point fingers at the agent, Petro, and Armstrong, but we won't know who to really blame until the numbers come out (what each side really wanted and what was actually signed).

If a player misses games, as far as I'm concerned, it's 99% on the player, not the team.

In this case if what we are hearing is true I would agree...AP realistically should not get more than Karlsson...With no bargaining power he should be happy with 8 years and 6.5 if the Blues eventually go that high...I blame the agent and players union and I fullly understand if AP wanted it he could tell his agent to do it but we all know it rarely works that way and this agent has prove he can milk it for all its worth even if the player ain't worth it.

I want Pietro to sign before camp, but I'm having a hard time feeling like its a big deal if he holds out. I pretty much expect that he will.

Like any normal person would do, he'll probably have a short holdout so he doesn't have to go to the first few practices.

I wasn't bothered, it'll get sorted sooner rather than later. Now with the explosion of trade threads on him... hurry up and sign Alex!

Right...I just came here to see if I missed him demanding a trade or something.

I love the NYI and Philly ones.

It is a matter of who blinks first and there comes a point where the player will just tell him to get a deal done. Up until now Pietrangelo has had nothing to lose for letting his agent play it his way, we'll see what Pietrangelo's appetite is for this in the coming weeks.

It didn't work for Subban last year, and I bet he is delighted about that now, will make him a lot more in the long term.

Pietrangelo to Miss Start of Training Camp

Quote:
“Talks between the Blues and Alex’s camp have broken off for now and Alex will not be reporting for our camp today,” said Armstrong.
I was really expecting this drama to end within few next days but apparently they are nowhere near a solution.
