I wouldn't have minded giving Cleary the guaranteed contract for the year over Gagne but three years is too rich for my liking unless the cap hit is low enough to burry it in the minors at some point which it doesn't sound like it will be.

Not comfortable with adding Cleary under any circumstances, but if Paul has a 3 for 1 deal in mind or something ridiculous, where he packages Read and a couple defensemen for a serious upgrade at D, I could deal with that. Cleary filling Read's shoes, if that's the price to get our D upgraded, OK, fine, still rather Gagne but I'll deal. Cleary taking the place of a young guy without clearing space for him? Not so much.

He is on the ice when it counts, you guys must not watch other teams play. Last minute of games. He is responsible on the ice and battles hard.

Cleary is still a good player. I believe he can still give 16 mins a game with some time on the PK and chip in points as well. Last year he was on pace for just around 30 points, but also put in 10 in 14 playoff games as well. He is a give all type of guy as well, someone who will lay down to block a shot when needed. He can give Giroux a spell on the PK when need be as well. I actually don't mind a two year deal, three years is pushing it a little. If his salary is under 900K though he it would be alright.

He had 33 points in 75 games in 12 and 46 points in 68 games the year before. He can still contribute offensively and would look good on the third line.

We almost surely would have to be having trade talks with some team if we are being brought up in signing Cleary. We just don't have the room with out LTIRing Pronger on day one. Maybe we are up to something???

Coming off a contract worth 2.8 annually, I don't see him signing for 900K. I could see 1.5 million or around there though. I honestly think I would prefer him over Gagne right now.

From the local paper write up here in Newfoundland

"Cleary was seventh in team scoring (nine goals, six assists) during the 2012-13 regular season. He’s scored 119 goals during his 540 games in Detroit, or an average of 18 goals per 82-game season with a plus-24 rating playing against the opposing team’s top forwards.

From 2006-07 to 2008-09, when he registered 40, 42 and 40 points, Cleary was regarded as one of the NHL’s top two-way forwards, a player whop was invited to the 2010 Canadian Olympic team’s summer evaluation camp."

I believe he actually signed somewhere in the KHL. I'm sure Homer's on the phone trying to negotiate a way to get him over here, though.

Flyers need a cap-killing contract since Jody Shelley left, so why not?

I don't see how this works under the cap unless he's taking a huge pay cut.

According to today's Detroit Free Press, Cleary turned down the Wings offer prior to them signing Alfie and Weiss. He was looking for 3 yrs at around 2.5 mill per year.

Flyers continue to take steps backwards. Signing him means one of the young players who need those minutes to develop won't get them. I'd rather have McGinn on that 3rd line getting to play more and growing as a player.
Cleary's a good player but on the decline the last couple of years and I can't see him being such an upgrade that it would be a difference maker.
Unless Homer needs one more over 33 guy to get a gold plated AARP discount.
And a bit classless on Homer's part stringing Gagne along all summer , telling him as soon as the season started and they got $$ he'd sign him. Nice.
Hextall can't take over fast enough.

He plays for "Donbass" KHL along with Fedotenko and Bartulis. Should we call them Flyers- Far East?

He is awful. Watching him these last two years was absolutely brutal. Babcock trots him out because he is obsessed with him. He falls all over the ice, is slow, old and completely worthless.

Of course his stats are going to look somewhat decent, but being centered by Datsyuk or Zetterberg will hide the fact that he is worthless. I hope I never see him wear the winged wheel ever again.

He is also always injured, but plays through the injuries and just sucks even more, but Babcock loves his grit. My liver hates Danny Cleary.

I just find it hard to believe a guy can field multiple offers with multiple years on them this late in the summer.

Yikes...Lavi has a penchant for doing this and likes to make examples of others but not his favorites. It is annoying but I hope your hate for Cleary is not just blind hate....

Last thing we need is somebody who keeps getting playing time despite his actual play on the ice..especially since we have some prospects vying for jobs
