http://www.uscho.com/2013/09/09/comm...st-in-the-end/

Frozen Fenway III is upcoming. And the pool is expanding from the always popular BC-BU match up to include every HE team that hasn't played outdoors, over TWO weekends. New presenting sponsor Citi.

Will the marketing power of Fenway and the historic and conference rivals be enough to make $$ with a third grab for the brass ring? (Perhaps even sell out?)

Or has the novelty of outdoor games worn off?

I'm not sure it's completely worn off yet, but we are at a point where there will be some embarrassing failures in the near future. I still don't see outdoor games as being viable or necessary outside of marquee matchups.

If it wasn't Fenway I'd say yes.

When you think about the amount (basically everyone) of Red Sox fans throughout the region and the price of tickets for their games, this seems like a great way to capitalize on that group of people who doesn't get a chance to go see a game during the year but is willing to travel there for their school.

Will they make major money off of the mutli-weekend outdoor games?

If the answer is yes, then they haven't gone far enough. If the answer is no, then they have gone too far.

All there is to it. These sort of outdoor games will keep getting rolled out to greater degrees until they stop being profitable.

I agree. I think when it gets to the point where we are seeing half full stadiums for the outdoor games, and/or we start hearing a lot of stories in the press about tickets being given away/bought up by the teams, that's when we might see a change.

My personal speculation-if the NHL does want to do this "NHL outdoor week" every year going forward, I'm going to say (this being year "1"), by year 3 or year 4 we will start to see it, unless they're determined that EVERY NHL team will eventually be involved in an outdoor game-if that's part of the "future plan"-in that case they may just push through anyway.

This is a general comment of outdoor hockey games.....

Every team will want to have one at their home.

If the game is worthwhile people will come out to see it.

In all honesty I dont see an issue with every team doing one per year if they choose to do it.

aftr setting up the rink the marginal cost of operating other games, like college games, is minimal.

I don't see the novelty ever wearing off. I really think that eventually, every NHL team will have one home game outdoors in their city every year.

Has the novelty of indoor hockey games worn off? They play over twelve hundred a year - seems like overkill to me.

How many teams **still** have not participated (or are scheduled) in outdoor game? (SJ, PHX, DAL, COL, CBJ, STL, MIN, WPG -- and that's just western conference. TB, FLA, CAR in the east.)

I'd say there are perhaps a million fans of those teams who would like an opportunity to say they had a chance to attend an outdoor game.
