Actually when it comes down to it, i's not THAT BAD of a signing. The term sucks, but cap space is so ****ing overrated on this site it's ridiculous. Cleary automatically becomes if not the best, then top 3 of defensively out of our forwards. He'll chip in about 40 points also. Don't forget he was a selke candidate, and what he has lost in foot speed, he still has in smarts.

Probably not the worst ever, but definitely the worst since Bryz without a doubt.

I don't mean to come in here and just deliver bad news, but I have to correct you. Cleary has never been a Selke candidate and was borderline awful defensively last year. In terms of goals against per 60 minutes, he was one of the 3 worst forwards on Detroit last year. He is a heart and soul guy though. He just doesn't seem to have the physical ability to be effective anymore. He did deal with some injuries in recent years though, so hopefully for your guys' sake he can bounce back.

This is baffling. Why didn't they just give that contract to Gagne?

Only if he is centered by a Datsyuk or Zetterberg caliber player year-round AND has a huge comeback year. No way he gets 40 IMO.

At least with Bryz and Lilja it was "only" 2 years of being the team goat. Shelley seemed like and eternity..kind of like Rathje's cap hit for all those years. Cleary's 3 years may be a bitter pill to take as well.

BTW forgot Walker....

Maybe because Cleary will actually battle in a corner....but yeah still baffling and I wasn't the biggest fan of bringing Gagne back..mostly b/c I wanted one of the rookies to fight for the roster spot.

Really stupid, but at least it's not 35+ or NMC. We can buy him out next summer no problem if he's that bad. Sad that I consider that a good thing.

I just don't understand how this was necessary unless they're planning to trade Read or Talbot.

I'm truly shocked over this. I can't imagine what Holmer is doing with this. 3 years is terrible. 2.75/yr is terrible. NTC is terrible. Please let this be incorrect. Is this Detroit reporter super legit? God, I hope this isn't true.

A 'Regular' BuyOut... which is what the Flyers have after using both Compliance BuyOuts... would mean a Cap hit spread out so many years. IMO he would have to stink to high Heavens to be BoughtOut... I only recall one Regular BO -- Bartulis IIRC -- by the Flyers... all the others were Compliance ones after the LockOuts, unless I'm forgetting any.

Was Matt Walker a buyout?

More like a bye-out...as in goodbye and get out!

I think his contract just ran its ugly course...not sure though.

Thank you Philly for taking him off our hands.

One of the hardest working players in the league no doubt, but simply doesn't have the skills to match.

Get used to this guy loosing puck battles and falling down every shift he's in (we call it the Dan Cleary Drinking Game).

From what I can tell, Helene St. James is very legit indeed.

I'm just hoping that "NTC" doesn't mean "full NTC." This being Homer, it probably does, but maybe it's just a list of 5 teams he doesn't want to be moved to or something.

Honestly, what I'm really concerned about is finding out what the other shoe to fall is going to be. I don't know what it is just yet, but I'm almost positive I'm not going to like it.
