I wish the Predators would offer Kadri a contract.

Bleacher report, puckdaddy, CBS sports all had him as one of the top FA wingers.

and you can cite anyone .. stalberg wasnt a big name free agent. he was a scratch come playoff time. he is a complimentary piece .. not a big time guy. this horrible crop of free agency has made guys like briere, stalberg, grabvoski, brunner actually seem like great pick ups. they aren't.

I don't think the city of Nashville has any bearing on whether you guys can sign Kadri. I feel that the leafs would match an offer sheet unless Nashville risked him not being signed in October, quietly go about their business making room, and stick it to us when we don't have the 10% cap cushion. Either that or make a trade with an understanding that he will sign.

He didn't say this was a great free agent class this off season, but what he said is true, Stalberg was a headliner of this class, no matter what happened in the playoffs.

After saying it would be a first if I were right, you then pretty much concede that he was one of the bigger names of this year's class. The ghosts Gretzky, Orr, Esposito, Hull, Howe, and Stevens in their primes weren't available this year. Teams can only negotiate with those players who are available ... it's the nature of the game.

Stalberg addressed a need and brings in a skillset to replace Erat on the wing ... one of the things Poile stated was at the top of his list to accomplish. How well Stalberg actually performs in that role for the Preds remains to be seen. Claiming that he wasn't one of the higher rated free agents this summer is contrary to reality.

Pretty much nailed it. I think if Malkin signed here, some people would want him to suck so they could complain about this team some more.

Comment on the post, not the poster, please. Also, lets keep this thread on topic which is the possibility of getting Kadri. Keep the Stalberg conversation in the right thread.

Thanks

The initial prognosis is true: Nashville Predators head coach Barry Trotz confirmed to NHL.com’s Mike Morreale
that Carter Hutton will back up Pekka Rinne in net.
What I was getting at is the cap figure we have been looking at did not have a back up goalie taken into account. Hutton's money still has to come out, as does Forsberg's. We don't even have $5.5m without those guys. We would have to shed something like $2m in cap space just to do that deal, and then we'd be right up against the ceiling. I doubt Poile wants to operate without any breathing room.

If moves can be made to jettison some cap space for prospects or picks it would work, but those moves would either have to be made before the OS, which is risky because of the unpredictable nature of OS's, or Poile would have to have gentlemen's agreements that he really trusts to go through in the event Kadri did sign the OS and it wasn't matched.

I'm under the impression that Kadri has had one good year (last year). I'd be wary of signing a guy with "bigger" money that isn't a little more proven.

No offense but were you okay with the Josi signing? Isn't this the same situation as far as one good year except for Josi was on our team?

we have seen Josi and how he performs in our system...

kadri would be a much bigger gamble than Josi

McKenzie tweeted that Kadri sees Tavares as the comparable contract.

@TSNBobMcKenzie
Kadri believed to be looking long-term (6 yrs in Tavares stratosphere of $5.5M per). Leafs want short, 2 yrs at P.K. Subban $ ($2.875M per).
Wanting Tavares money is fine, with a history of Tavares-like performance. 26 goals in 99 NHL games is not enough to pull in the big bucks on a long term deal for any 22 year old.

woah.....

•Bruce Arthur: Bob McKenzie said on TSN Radio that the Nazem Kadri is asking for a two-year deal worth $7 million, the Leafs are offering two-years at $5.7 million.
