Is there another Kulemin in the NHL? Because the one in Toronto takes the body so how in the hell can you say he has no grit? That's like saying that sandpaper has no grit.

ya we have a lot of those players.
Yeah and we have lots of size up front too

I'd be all over adding Kulemin if we could get him for relatively cheap.

I guess some people buy sandpaper at garage sales.

I definitely agree as well. I'm all for getting Kulemin as well because he'd improve the roster. I just wish they'd address the obvious deficiency at C and with the limited cap space remaining that should be the priority.

In the end though I'll agree with others here... getting Kulemin improves the roster and if he's available, the Oilers should be in on acquiring him... it's MacT's job to find a way to then move other bodies out to fit him in under the cap space they have.

I think I watched the same Kulemin that you did. He'd be a fine addition to the Oilers as a third line LW.

"Grit" is more encompassing than just hits, but you do realize how short you're selling the player... right?
Aside from fighting he has those other aspects as well. Solid on the boards. Drives the net and is good defensively.

Why are the Leafs trying to dump Kulemin anyway? He seems like just the kind of player they'd want... plenty of grit and truculence.

I know they need cap space for Kadri and Franson... but there must be better ways to clear some space other than trading one of their best all-around forwards.

He's a UFA in for a payday that Toronto isn't going to be able to give him. His line was completely intimidated in the playoffs. He's not going to make the top-6 over Lupul, Kadri, Kessel, Van Riemsdyk, Clarkson and Bozak - so maybe they think they can get a decent prospect out of trading him now as opposed to a second round pick or something come deadline.

Plus, doesn't hurt to clear a bit of capspace out. They've got room, but not a lot after Kadri.

Another few more PTOs

@JoshRimerHockey
Ian White has signed a PTO with the Winnipeg Jets

@StapeNewsday
Only NHL vet coming to #Isles camp is Radek Martinek.

@JoeYerdonPHT
Colton Gillies gets an invite to #Sabres training camp. He'll be donning No. 70 through tryouts.

@goldieonice
Veteran d man Brett Clark will also attend Florida Panthers training camp

And one PTO rejection

@LavoieRenaud
With Clemmensen out for 3 weeks, Panthers offered a PTO to Jose Théodore today. Théodore rejected the offer. He's waiting for a contract.

Kadri and Franson. They definitely could need to move someone.

Kulemin would obviously be a very good 3rd line winger who could also play in the top 6 when injuries hit but it still leaves the Oilers weak at C... if they are going to spend what little cap they have left (especially now that Hemsky is off the market)... then Kulemin isn't really a sensible option at this point.
If Kulemin is available you go get him. None of the bolded guys are likely to be better or even close to as good as Kulemin. In fact Omark and Smyth are the only two i could see being better than 4th line/Press box. Sure a center would be great, but a big 2way winger would be awesome too. We need more than one thing. You can get 4th line centers for 1 million. As much as i don't like Lander/Acton being gifted a spot, neither should really hurt the team that much. It's the 4th line. Yeah depth is important but i think it's partially why they want to see if Hall can be a guy who can move over like Elias/Kane/Sharp when needed. Kulemin-Gordon-Hemsky is an elite 3rd line. With elite 1st, 2nd, and 3rd lines the Oilers will be in great shape. We need centers but we still have 3 very good ones.

I'd do Kulemin for N.Schultz at a retained salary + something else?

What's his worth exactly?

If you can get Kulemin, you get Kulemin.

Kulemin-Gordon-xxx is two thirds of a real shutdown line.

Kulemin makes a ton of sense if the Leafs are looking to move him for some reason. He'd fit in great on the third line this season and would help a lot with our overall depth. I'm not sure if he fits in with our overall salary structure long-term but I think he'd look great in a depth scoring role with Hemsky:

Hall-Gagner-Yakupov
Perron-RNH-Eberle
Kulemin-Gordon-Hemsky
Jones-Lander-Joensuu

That's a pretty deep looking set of forwards all of a sudden.

What's the price for Kulemin? He'd be a great addition to the Oilers.

I'd deal Hemmer if possible and do what you need to get Moss from Phx

Hall-Gagner-Yakupov
Perron-RNH-Eberle
Kulemin-Gordon-Moss
Jones-Acton-Joensuu/Brown

PB:Smytty.

Schwing!

I would love Kulemin.

Its just too bad that MacT said he wouldn't deal Hemmer.

Pick up Kulemin for a pick and a prospect.

Get someone like Moss from PHO or Goc/Bergenheim for FLA and the lineup looks sooo much better.

Hall - Gagner - Yak
Perron - RNH - Ebs
Kulemin - Gordon - Jones/Bergenheim
Jones/Jonesuu - Goc/Lander - Brown/Smyth

Kulemin would look great on the third line alongside Gordon. That's not only a great pairing defensively at even strength, but also a potential #1 PK unit.

Also, Anton Lander's competition are a 24 year old college FA getting outplayed by Ty Bilcke and a 25 year old AHL 4th liner who's dad is an assistant coach. I'm going to go cry in a corner about our center depth now.

At this stage, I'd be fine with bringing in Smithson on a tryout contract. I'm pretty confident Lander would beat him out in camp but if not, it doesn't hurt to have a veteran option available in the event that he tanks. Acton could be an option but it seems like he has basically zero offensive upside and would purely be a faceoff/defensive player (which is what MacTavish criticized our bottom six for last season).

He may not be actively trying to sell Hemsky off to the highest bidder, but if the right deal came along, as in someone else showed considerable interest in Hemsky, I'm sure he wouldn't slam door to face.

If MacT inquired about Kulemin and was told Hemsky would be part of the deal, you'd have to think he would consider it.

Why the hell would TO want Hemsky, his injury prone body and his $5 million dollar contract? Even if the Oilers took 50% of the cap hit and salary... that would save the Leafs a grand total of 300k... they might as well not even bother picking up the phone.
