We lost that trade, plain and simple. Not only because Kristo might be a better hockey player than Thomas, but also because there is no room at all for another 5'9" on this team.
You do realize that 5'11" Danny Kristo would be called a smurf around here, right?

You also realize Thomas, who is younger than Kristo, is most likely not making the team right away, and we traded for a younger player...and within 2 years those dreaded smurfs Gionta, Briere, and maybe Desharnais will be gone, right?

Seriously, how to you lose a trade just by looking at height?

Gionta = UFA next summer
Briere = UFA in 2 years

My darkhorse pick for this camp is Tarnasky for the 4th line spot center.

As for Murray, have you seen him in the golf tournament? There's a glitch in mass physics if he's actually 209. He's at the very least 230 pounds now.

Marinaro has to be reporting the Gazette article on Eller and the training camp invites list. You'd think in Montreal, we could get more information, but it seems like it's too much to ask for.

Marinaro - About Eller gaining 19 pounds of Muscle in the off season.

It was obviously a joke about Murray at 209 and that Marinaro was talking about that.

Playing both Tarnasky and Parros regularly is probably not a good idea (though Tarnasky might actually be a better player than Parros at this point), however I wouldn't be surprised at all if Tarnasky is called up at some point.

If you stopped to think about it for a while and took a deep breath, you'd realize it's more than likely to replace Gionta who might not start the season.

Well, you make it seem like we traded for way smaller. It's not "that" big of a trade off. That's my point.

Kristo will play this year and who knows when Thomas will play for us, if he ever does. Only time will tell but we could have address some of our present needs, and not hypothetical future needs...

Yup! Let's replace a smurf by a smurf, that's exactly what we need...

I loved Dumont from the start. It is amazing how little respect he gets here. He is a Carbo lite for sure, a guy who scored in Junior, tough as nails, and plays great D. I called it on this guy 2 years ago. You could see it coming, but it's like no one noticed. Great pick, really.

He's going to be our 3rd C, after Chuckie and Eller, in 2 years.

Yeah, let's replace him with McCarron because height wins hockey games.

I usually don't troll but, really? How can you decide who "won" a trade when neither prospect has made their respective team? Both are on similar paths, with one having a year of pro experience at the AHL level. Can't be optimistic about that?

With potential injuries there is undoubtedly room for Thomas. Sick of this size thing.

You don't have a jesus clue.

It's all about equilibrium. If we have the chance to replace a talented smurf by a talented bigger player, why not do it? Especially when this is exactly what this team needs.

We need to look at talent first. And then our needs...

If Thomas makes the team, Gionta is gone.

Simply by the reports around the league. They all say Kristo will be a regular on NYR this year.

While I think it is sad for Thomas that even if he has the talent, it will be hard to make room for him on such a small forward group, even next year.
