NYR invite Johan Hedberg to camp

Interesting news out of New York today

per Katie Strang
Quote:
#NYR Some news at MSG training center today. Martin Biron not here due to personal issue. Johan Hedberg is attending camp on PTO

Let's leave the speculation out of what Biron's personal issue is, but I'd say it could be fairly significant if they were willing to invite another goalie.

Right after I posted that, Strang posted

Quote:
#NYR Told that Marty Biron, absent today for "personal reasons", will likely return soon, maybe as early as tomorrow

well that is weird.

only way he makes the team is if he takes a dirt cheap 1 way deal and the Rangers trade Biron for cap space

Probably just getting a workout close to home. Will look to sign elsewhere after camp.

I think he's been pretty clear that he only wants to sign for NYR, NYI or NJ.

It's obvious he wanted to stay in the area.

Curious if they're actually interested in signing him or if they just need a body for camp.

If this doesn't work out he has a front office job in New Jersey waiting for him.

Front office job is waiting in NJ Moose. You are always welcome back

Good luck in NYR , still a great professional. He may not be a very good goalie anymore, but he is a great person

I'm sure this is just a favor more than anything else. An opportunity for him to get into game shape and hopefully pick up a job elsewhere.

Hedberg isn't even remotely an NHL caliber goalie anymore. He's just a warm body who has delusions of grandeur of playing the NHL again, and will be an easy cut once Biron is back. I wouldn't read too much into it.
