This. I hate the rumored contract, but was ok with him playing on 3rd line with Couts. Now it seems like he is just using the Flyers. If we invite u to camp, you dont blow us off to beg the Wings to keep you.

The plot thickens. One eyewitness said Cleary was spotted on the grassy knoll just beyond the Wells Fargo Center when the first puck was dropped. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE CONFIRM THIS?!

So Homer wasn't lying. Agents are just using Homers "lies" in the past to get their clients leverage.

Elliotte Friedman:

NHL had no issues with the reported/PTO contract rumor. Theory is Cleary changed his mind and will accept a lesser contract with DET.

All signs point to that being the case now.

LW Dan Cleary did not report to the first day of Flyers' camp Thursday at the Wells Fargo Center, meaning several rookies are now battling for a roster spot, incluidng Tye McGinn, Scott Laughton and Michael Raffl.

Cleary had agreed to a tryout contract, but apparently has had second thoughts.

I guess there's always a chance Cleary arrives tomorrow. But the fact he was reportedly negotiating with the Red Wings on Wednesday makes this whole thing fishy.

Cleary, 34, an unrestricted free agent, had all summer to get a deal done with Detroit. When that didn't happen, he agreed to a tryout contract with the Flyers.

Now it appears he used the Flyers as leverage to get the Wings to up the ante. Detroit had originally offered him a three-year deal for about $6 million, sources said.

The Flyers were going to give him a three-year contract for $8.25 million when they cleared enough cap space, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Earlier in the week, GM Paul Holmgren said there was not a preconceived deal and that Cleary had to make the team during camp.

Maybe the Flyers dodged a bullet. Like I said..the ironic thing would be for Gagne to bolt elsewhere b/c they dissed him and made him stew like Carle and Jagr and then one of the rookies win the job ,which is what I always wanted, and then that rookie to win rookie of the year honors.

Should I show up to camp and pretend i'm Dan Cleary?

they'd be like.. "wow, this guy can barely skate"

The funny thing is that Cleary may get left out in the cold altogether here. Detroit will have to make a few moves in the next few days to fit him in & I would imagine he burned his bridges here with an obvious ploy for leverage so there's a chance he doesn't sign with neither of the two still.

I wouldn't have minded him here if he didn't have a contract to go along with him...

Anyway, hopefully this motivates the rookies again. I still don't want Gagne in the mix and I don't think he will be given the slight...
