@SpectorsHockey
As per @FriedgeHNIC, the Dan Cleary deal with #Flyers fell thru to "complications". #Flyers have yet to comments.

I can just see the Flyers Management having a meeting:

Asst. GM- So Paul, I was just thinking about our third line and....

Holmgren- <Talking on the phone> Uh huh, uh huh, great! we will fax the contract down now! <Hangs up phone> All taken care of. Just signed Cleary to a 3 year deal at 2.95M per.

Asst. GM- uhhh Paul, where are we gonna get the room to keep him here?

Holmgren- Pronger's booth is open, he can move there. Cobwebs were growing all over it anyways.

Asst. GM- <Sighs> that's not what I meant, what I mean is, how are we gonna fit him into the team?

Holmgren- He'll fit right in. We got young guys, we got old guys, we even got retired guys. He'll be ok.

Asst. GM-But what about the cap?

Holmgren-What cap?

<Crickets>

Asst. GM- Nevermind. Pretend I never said anything.

Holmgren- What did you say? the last 10 minutes I was busy thinking of what parade float I'll be on this year.

What has Hodgson done to get a 6 year deal? Unless it's dirt cheap they are nuts in Buffalo and haven't learned anything.

Well potential for one, and 34 points in 48 games last year isn't bad

And a 6 year 27 million deal (which is what capgeek is showing right now) is fair.

Even if he is a "borderline" 2nd/3rd line C and I don't think anyone would doubt that he will be that at least, 4.5 million a year isn't that overpriced. And really he's young enough that he could develop into their first line C and then they got a steal at that price.

I'm just not a fan of 6 year deals for guys that had one decent year and have had injury problems( at least I thought he had). Buffalo didn't learn when they locked up Myers without very much backup on Myers part?

This paying for potential is why we keep going into lockouts.

Some offer sheet speculation on Cody Franson. Anything above $3.3 mil pretty sure Tor would take the 1rst rnd pick. Anything under...match.

Capgeek says they have just under $2M in capspace. That's also with a 22-man roster. Kulemin remains the interesting target, but with BMac saying we're looking for a heavyweight, and Eakins saying they gotta be able to play, Orr and McLaren look interesting.

Yeah either of those guys would be nice, we crapped the bed last year not picking up McLaren or Kassian last year IMO.

Honestly this team doesn't have a clue what they are doing when it comes to "heavyweights"... they want them... then they don't... then they do... then they don't... on and on.

Smac...Hordi...Brown (middleweight but good fighter).

They dumped a nuclear guy in Smac because he couldn't play hockey only to add a light heavy in Hordi who they also deemed expendable after playing him so little it was ludicrous to have him around... only to add Brown as a middleweight who could actually skate and play hockey (a little). Now they want a heavy again.

Honestly they should have just kept Steve Macintyre to begin with if they wanted a goon. He's the biggest, toughest goon of them all and if you want a guy who'll bust face... well he's the man to have around.. you just accept his "warts" in terms of his hockey ability (or lack thereof) and play him as the 13th forward in 30-40 games per year... less than 5 minutes per game.

He is what he is... toughest fighter in hockey who can't play a lick. Any other so called goons are going to have negligible skills and abilities beyond their fighting as well... not enough to make any real difference beyond their pugilistic abilities so if you want a goon simply get a GOON and not a goon who you think is something else... because they aren't.

Management simply is schizo in what they want/need when it comes to enforcers. They are basically looking for something that doesn't exist.

I don't think it's schizo when you have a new GM and coach. Eakins just wants a guy that can play, so no Big Mac.

Also Eakins knows Brown. Maybe he doesn't like what Brown brings to the table? That's probably why Toronto traded him to us in the first place, he's just not that good. He's small and he can't really play. We need a guy that can play, because one-dimensional goons don't really fit into any system.

I don't think they actually want a heavyweight like Smac. Eakins today in an interview made it seem like he was satisfied with what they had. He would like to have some guys who can dust it up but only if they can contribute during the play. I believe he said he didn't like the guys who go out there and fight off the faceoff.

Thoughts:

1) Hodgson at 6yrs x 4.5M is ridiculous. Buffalo should have waited for Vanek to leave for CH's numbers to drop before an extension like that.

2) I wonder what Holland has up his sleeve for Cleary right now. DRW could use that bottom6 depth.

3) Good for Chris VV getting that Flyers camp invite. To me he's like Colin McDonald. A guy our moronic management can't see a purpose for but becomes a contributor on a good team. Although VV will be hard pressed to find a roster spot on that stacked Philly lineup.

4) This Franson thing could go a while. No one will OS him if the compensation is going to be a 1st. And I doubt he signs for anything less than 3.5M anyways, given his numbers. Leafs might have to deal him.

5) If Kulemin is available, the Oil need to get all over that. Can play both 2nd/3rd line minutes, and his size, skill, and 2-way play will be a boon for this team.

Breaking: Damien Brunner won't play for #EVZ. Informed team this morning and said he won't risk injury because he's negotiating w/ NHL team.

I see Franson to CGY. Burke will pretend to be a bully again and try take advantage of a team with no cap space.

Could even see them taking Liles as well.

agree to an extent, but much can be pointed at Tambo (as usual). He signs Hordi and his newly hired coach doesn't play him. did you forget to ask Krugs his view on enforcers during the interview, Tambi? you might want to have a chat with your coach about speciality players before you sign a specialist. just sayin.

i'm willing to give MacT/Eakins a clean slate from the gong show we saw the last 4 years.
