Good depth player. He'll probably play less than 20 games, but when he'll play, he'll be good

Gionta has also missed his share of games lately...

I rather have Morrow at this point. But if this was 2010 I would take Gagne in a heartbeat

I'd rather have Kostitsyn.

I think bergevin said today that Gionta on opening night is a possibility.

This is why i hated DD's contract so much last year

At this point we could've ice this kind of line-up:

PACIORETTY - PLEKANEC - GIONTA
GALCHENYUK - BRIÈRE - BOURQUE
XXXXXXXXX - ELLER - GALLAGHER
MOEN - WHITE - PRUST
PARROS

A line-up which i wouldn't have any problem with

And we would have had $3.5M to fill the hole on the left with a player like Gagne, Morrow or even Brunner

I'd take 2M$ Gagné over 5M$ Gionta... but it's debatable

Gagne played much better than Briere did in Philly last year, and was healthy all season, and he's a natural winger unlike Danny. He should also be available for 1 year, and $2 million or less.

I think you guys got the wrong French Canadian former Flyer.

I'm not a fan of DD at all and I think he's an awful fit for this team right now like everyone else, but I'm sure DD will point up more points than those 3 guys. Morrow would bring a different style of game atleast. (Pretty big Brunner fan though!)

Yep, let's stock up on the leftovers from other teams... 'cause that's the way to win!

I think it's safe to say that Gionta classifies as injury prone now as well.

If he signs 1 year $1m or lower than why not... We have the cap space and its just added depth in case multiple wingers get injured.

He clearly wouldnt be on a healthy lineup, but Stanley Cup teams have nhl calibre players in the press box.

Marc Bergevin ‏@MarcFBergevin 2h
Mme Marois please don't ban all Canadiens merchandise by listing it as religious paraphernalia. I'll sign Simon Gagne! He's totally Franco!

this made me laugh. Seriously though, I'd have taken Gagne over Briere but it's too late for that now, so unless he gets rid of someone from our top 9 (Desharnais? Gionta?) forgetaboutit.

Great player, but I'm not sure we need a guy who will be lucky to play 20 games this year. We have enough injury prone players to begin with.

I'd reckon Gionta's as injury prone as Gagne. And he can't use broken neck and concussion as an excuse either.

Regardless, Gagne won't end up a Hab - he won't fit. But I prefer him to Briere and DD.

This does fuel the whole "Bergevin is a secret Francophone slag" rumour though. He's obsessed with French players regardless of quality and health. Hmm.
