hitting the waiver wire will be: Corey Cowick, Stephane Da Costa, David Dziurzynski, maybe Mike Hoffman, and maybe Jim O'Brien.

Depending on what happens with Risto, one of Sulzer/McBain might be waiver bait as well.

The Leafs can kiss Holzer goodbye. Too many teams looking for cheap defensive depth.

Organization seems to want to give him every chance to make the team, but Kevin Connauton in Dallas.

They gave him a 3 year deal with the final two as one-way in hopes of deterring people from claiming him if they decide to waive him.

Mess of options on forward, but the most notable could be Lane MacDermid, Ryan Garbutt, and Colton Sceviour.

Possibility of Halischuk, Thorburn, Peluso, but I think all 3 of those will start the year in Winnipeg.

I can see JOB earning a pressbox seat but the others will be waived. JOB will need a strong camp to keep him with the nhl roster.

the way i see it JOB and hoffman's jobs depend on what the sens do with pageau and stone. If either make the team, one of job or hoffman has to be waived. If both make the team, they both have to go.

What do your 3rd/4th lines look like and why wouldn't Halischuk fit there without having played a game yet? He was a useful energy guy, sneaky scorer for Nashville.

Moen won't be waived. You don't shed salary mid-season just for the sake of it. Moen still has his role.

Bortuzzo may be a casualty if Niskanen ends up staying. The only other way would be Despres being sent down to the AHL, which would make my blood boil.

Maybe Despres' blood should have boiled enough to hit the treadmill a few times this summer.

For the Wings, Eaves and Tootoo seem to be heading in this direction.

Halischuk could fit on the 3rd line, you never know. He's also on a 2-way. We just have lots of bottom 6 guys:

Halischuk - Jokinen* - Frolik
Wright - Slater - Thorburn
Peluso/Tangradi/O'Dell/Cormier

* Jokinen is likely 3rd line C if Scheifele performs well
O'Dell is the only one waiver exempt
bold = 2-way contract

There's also speculation that we're after Mason Raymond for that 3rd line LW spot. Jet (moderator on jets forum) stated we made a 1 year offer to him early in free agency. Raymond also started his professional career in Winnipeg with the Manitoba Moose.

For the Blue Jackets...

D) Cody Goloubef (think he would get picked up)
D) David Savard (Possibly but I doubt it)

Them going on waivers depends on a couple of things...
1)Does Murray make the team?
2)Is Prout healthy to start the season?
3)Does Melart make the team as the number 7 defensemen?

If Holzer gets snagged from the Leafs and those guys go on waivers, you can bet the Leafs will put in a claim for either one.

Think you quoted the wrong guy. I really want Halischuk on the 3rd line, if not the 4th for sure. However he is one of the few guys on a two-way deal, so I think they may base this decision on money (the cynic in me). Really hoping to see...

Halischuk - Jokinen - Frolik
Tangradi - Slater - Wright
Peluso - Thorburn

Think we'll see...

Tangradi - Scheifele - Frolik
Wright - Slater - Thorburn
Peluso (and keep Pardy as a #8 D).

Minor differences, but I think the top half is a better fit with more punch (energy and scoring), and I believe in running a 14f, 7d team, not a 13f, 8d team.

Jets have 23 on their tentative Capgeek roster. Scheifele and Trouba are both waiver-exempt. Assume Scheifele sticks, but Trouba goes down. This allows one outsider O'Dell/Lowry/????? to force his way onto the team, without anybody going on waivers. Let's say a bunch of rookies have outstanding training camps. My opinion of who's most expendable is...
  1. Thorburn; fan favourite, etc, but he's not in our future. With the acquisition of Peluso, Thorburn is redundant. Peluso can fight better, skate better, and even show a bit of offense.
  2. Pardy; if Ian White's PTO pans out into a contract.
  3. Jokinen or Wright; if Scheifele and O'Dell both make the team.
