Is that what I said? Potter is a serviceable bottom pairing defender with value on the PP. Tootoo has no game at all.
Outside of a small stretch Potter has been brutal on the PP. Sure Corey Power Potter Play is fun to say but he really isnt that effective on the man advantage.

Listening to Ryan Jones' interview on oilers.com, he implied that RNH would make Eakin's physical tests look like a joke. Interesting, did not know he was that fit. Now if only we could find him a personal nutrition test.

Even with cap recapture, that's is significant extra room to spent.

He had a bad year last year (Justin Schultz basically took his spot), but posted solid PP numbers the season before.

I'm not saying he's great: like I said, he's probably a replacement level 6-7 defenceman. But IMO, that has more value than a useless plug like Tootoo.

Why we would need Tootoo when we already have Brown, IDK.

I posted about this in another thread.
Expectations need to be tempered, not everybody can walk around at 200+ pounds.
Brian Sutherby was on Gregors show the day he was introduced at OilersNation, and he talked about how it was near impossible for him to get to 210# at 6'3" every offseason and by midseason he would be back down below 200#.

Some guys just don't have the genetics to pack on that kind of weight and never will.

From personal experience I can relate to this. I work out 3-4 times a week and sit around 205lbs at 6'4". If I crush food and do nothing but eat all day I can get up to 210-215, but its an uncomfortable life and not worth it.

I know it was only first day of training camp but I don't like what Eakins is experimenting with. He is also a "duo" guy and this looks like his "duos" so far. Hall-Hemsky, Gagner-Eberle, Yakupov-Perron.
So that being said this is what the lines would most likely look like.

Jones-Gagner-Eberle
Smyth-Hall-Hemsky
Perron-Gordon-Yakupov
Eager-Acton/Lander-Jonesuu

I don't know if I am forgetting anyone but I hate Smyth being on Hall's line, Eakins wants to surround him with veterans at first but Smyth just can't do it...

Also Rishaug said this morning that he believes Hamilton will get a serious look with Gagner and Eberle because Eakins likes what he brings.

2 seasons ago Tootoo had 30 points, tell me how many of our bottom 6 guys not named Hemsky have hit that mark on this team in the last 2 years? He also hits like a truck and can drop the gloves if need be. But yeah he has no value as a player

Potter was decent even strength last season, even if he didn't produce on the PP. The big thing about Potter is his cap hit / salary is so low and he's a decent 7th dman option. He can PK, PP and play even strength. He doesn't create that much offense, but doesn't give up much defensively either.

He doesn't hit at all however, and I think that's what bothers most people about Potter.

He showed some glimpses of some snarl last season, I thought.

I remember half-jokingly calling him "Corey Pronger" a few times in GDTs.

Ryan Smyth. Ryan Jones. So yeah, just half our bottom 6.

Detroit's an organization that is pretty good at identifying useful players. But they scratched Tootoo in the playoffs (he was garbage for them despite getting cherry pie minutes) and are said to be looking at shipping him back to Nashville. I think I'll take their assessment of his value over yours.

As I said: we have Mike Brown to play the role of sideshow already, we don't need more of that ilk.

Agreed, he is big enough to rub guys out and he did do it a few times in the corners. Those were the times when I lauded his play.

What I dislike about Potter is him looking clueless with the puck.

He was probably referring to how effortless a skater RNH is. Guys like him and Schultz probably don't expend as much energy skating as guys like Jones.

People forget Potter primary partner last year was Ryan, not even good enough for the AHL, Whitney.

Potter, and everyone else, was wrecked last year by Whitney terribad play.

Apparently he's in the second best shape on the team after Andrew Ference.

Question is: is that a compliment to RNH or an insult to the rest of team?

By best shape, probably talking about his VO2 which was very high. Compliment to him.

Eakins seemed happy with the team's fitness scores in general.

I'm not sure about the logistics but about apparently scoring over 60 is high for a hockey player. Three Oilers were over 60: Ference, RNH and... another player, but he escapes me at the moment.

Don't you read any of the posts around here? Nuge didn't put on 30 lbs this off season, clearly he's in terrible shape.

Where are these numbers coming from. Afairc recall specifics from camp haven't been released before. Just some general comments usually.

Wheres the source if you don't mind. Not questioning, but a lot of us would probably want to know more details if any are out there.
