Sweden ultimately wasn't ready for action once the tournament started, first time many of the guys played together and it showed.

In the first couple of games there was no passing game to speak of, and all the responsibility was handed to Taylor/Jerebko. But now towards the end we played a pretty decent team game. Despite the loss today it was the best game, better than the win against Russia. With more experience we would have won it. Our best players are all U26 so that's promising. The older guys simply aren't good enough at this level and struggled heavily with the pace.

First step is to make sure we qualify again.

Möttölä out for the tournament.

Forgot to mention it during the game but having Eurobank ad on their jersey was all sorts of ironic.

This is the table with the win-loss stats within groups from the 1st round:

ITA 2-0
FIN 1-1
ESP 1-1
SLO 1-1
CRO 1-1
GRE 0-2

One win could do it but two wins is a sure quarterfinal spot.

It's been a great tourney so far and the team has exceeded expectations. Both our basket ball and volley ball teams have done really well recently. I wonder how this is possible really, as basket and volley are both world sports, almost like soccer. Minority sports like ice hockey, bandy, Finnish baseball and floorball are light years behind.

Basket and volleyball federations have put in a lot of effort in educating and developing coaches. Which is what the hockey federation should be doing as well but...

Not usually a big fan of basketball, but these games have been a pleasure to watch.

Does finishing in a certain position guarantee a place in next year's World Cup?

Top 6 will get the ticket. Because Spain is likely to finish among the top six teams and is qualified to the 2014WC as hosts, this means that the 7th placed team on the Eurobasket will also qualify.

FIN-CRO underway.

Seems Finnish fans left after the opening round, very empty in the stands.

Finland overachieved in the preliminary group and they can be satisfied with their progress since the last tournament. Having said that, I believe Finland will loose all three games in the second round with relative ease.

Koponen broke someone's ankles. Rubio definitely is a playmaker, not a scorer.

This 2nd period could turn out to be crucial, Spain building up a lead

got to give credit to Croatia for making the QFs, especially after their pathetic games against Spain and Georgia in the first groups (although they won against Georgia, barely). Didn't expect much from this team but they seem to have a good spirit/unity and when they can hit their 3s are somewhat dangerous.

If Finland wins and Spain beats Italy - Croatia beats Greece tomorrow.

Does Finland go through to quarter finals?

No, Slovenia beating Italy on Saturday already eliminated us.

Croatia win their group

They have already surpassed their requirements for this tournament, qualifying for the World Championships next year, but now they have a shot at a medal
