Cliff coming makes U of I a Final Four contender next year and sets a precedent. Guys from Chicago will see that Cliff thought it was cool/hip to go to Champaign-Urbana to play college ball and that you can thrive there as a player. It helps immediately and with future recruiting. It'd be an incredible get if Mr. Alexander takes his talents to the University of Illinois.

Here are my thoughts:

Advantages for Illinois:

-Home state
-Loves Groce
-Chance to play in front of family and friends
-Buddies on the team with Chicago connections
-Has played with Leron Black
-Knows Black and Quentin Snider
-Official visit planned
-Lots of momentum around the program at the moment

I think we have as good of a chance as anybody. I am as realistic as they come, but an official visit changes the game. And let's be clear: Cliff changing from a Louisville official to U of I on the same day Snider committed is no coincidence. My belief was that he had a plan to change his last visit to U of I if Snider came and leave his plans alone if he went to UCLA, Michigan State, or elsewhere. This changes the game completely. John Groce gets to speak with Cliff on campus and will be the last coach he gets to hear from. I mean this genuinely: Cliff's visit is one of the biggest moments for the basketball program in history. It sets a precedent for the future. It makes us a Final Four contender for the 2014-15 season, but other guys will follow suit and think it is awesome to play in Champaign-Urbana if Cliff did it and played very well.

I can't wait to see what happens.

Thinking about picking up a ticket to next weekend's Northwestern/Maine football game. Might as well take advantage of cheap pre-conference games while I can.

Yes, by saying that U of I is a "Final Four contender" with Cliff, I am predicting multiple championships in the future. Get some perspective.

Ozil is off and running. Easy assist to Giroud and just set up Walcott for a breakaway, but he hit it right into the keeper's chest.

Yikes, sounds like Jerry Kill had another seizure on the Minnesota sidelines. Think that happened a couple years back as well...

Believe it is seizure number 4. I know at least one of the others was on the sidelines as well.

1st off, Sunderland never should've been in the game, Walcott failed to put them away twice in the 1st.

Play was ruled dead a good 3-4 seconds before the ball was in the net. Atkinson started to blow it dead before Jozy got free. If you have it DVRed, you can see right at 70:00 that he's starting to go the whistle while they're still tangled up. Intent to blow, just like hockey. He can't assume he's gonna get lose, he was being held for 3 whole seconds. How long can you wait on an advantage to see if it ever happens? It's also a push by Jozy...you can't score off your own foul. So you give the 1 foul from the beginning. Not saying it was a great decision, but I think it's far from the awful one people are making it out to be.

Even if it is a goal, you're telling me there is zero way they score again with 20 to play if it's level at that point? GMAFB

Oh come on homer. I think Jozy put I best himself

Sunderland striker Jozy Altidore on his disallowed goal: "I was just tussling back and forth with Bacary Sagna but I thought the referee was going to let us play, I got the better of him and then finished it off but I didn't hear the whistle and it was brought back. The keeper didn't either as he played 100% and I think Kieran Gibbs tried to clear it too. It was a good time to score and it would have been a good reward for us."

I've seen refs play advantage for 3 passes before. There's a reason the announcers were skewering the ref during the game and Sunderlands manager was after. He blew that call.

The ole "I didn't hear the whistle"

Whistle was very evidence. Playing advantage when the ball is moving is a lot different than when a player is being held for 3 seconds, that's an awful comparison. And like it says, "I got the better of him." Yeah, of course he did, did you see the stiff arm he threw?

And again...Even if it is a goal, you're telling me there is zero way they score again with 20 to play if it's level at that point? Of course you weren't gonna respond to that

Again...it wasn't a great call, already said that. Not arguing that. It wasn't as awful as people are saying it was.
But saying Arsenal were handed 3 points is complete nonsense. Sounds like you saw a replay of 1 thing and that's all you saw of the game.

If he was being held, sanga was the last man back and it's a red card. Sure arsenal could have scored but it completely changed the game. Sunderland had to chase
