Holy ****. That is way less than I anticipated. Crazy if true. No wonder he was pissed at McKenzie.

Interesting article on Russian players and the KHL vs. the NHL, focusing on Sergei Bobrovsky:

Quote:
This will be Bobrovsky’s fourth NHL season and he admits to feeling much more comfortable with life in America than he once did. Off the ice, he struggled mightily after joining the Philadelphia Flyers in 2010-11 — in large part because his then-girlfriend (now-wife) Olga was unable to get a U.S. visa and had to live in Ottawa for a chunk of the season.

Bobrovsky also had to deal with the same kind of culture shock most people go through in a new country.

“That was a really hard time … it was just crazy,” Bobrovsky said. “It’s not (just) about language, you know? People are different.

“Different life, different everything, different rules, different law — it’s a different world.”

I forgot the Islanders got Cal Clutterbuck this offseason. They're going to have a hell of a team with the young guys flying around and Matt Martin/Clutterbuck hitting everything they see.

Edit: Also, Steven Stamkos is 23 years old. TWENTY THREE YEARS OLD

Shhhhhh

Had to beat you to it buddy... in the Free agent thread. CBJ extends Broll for 3 years and Leafs come to terms with Mason Raymond - 1 year, $925,000 (not signed yet) as well. Its free agent frenzy all over again

Someone here wanted Raymond

Nothing set yet, but the Strib's Mike Russo says Wild F Jason Pominville and his team have begun negotiating an extension.

http://www.startribune.com/sports/blogs/222231091.html

Quote:
I talked this morning with Pominville, and as Fletcher said during last week’s Q and A, he has begun talking more often with Pominville’s agent regarding a contract extension.

Pominville, the former Buffalo Sabres captain acquired April 3 for two prospects and two draft picks, including the Wild’s 2013 first-round pick, is entering the last year of his contract.

“They’ve talked a few times for sure and are going back and forth about what the plans are,” Pominville said. “We’ll just go day by day and see if both sides can make progress and go from there.”

Pominville, 30, would like to stay in Minnesota long-term.

“They committed to getting me, so just that means a lot to me and being part of a group that is committed to having success and being in a city that loves hockey, that makes it even better,” he said. “I want to stay and be part of what they’re building.”
I can see them going in the 5yr/5.75 route for Poms. Chuck Fletcher really has to resign him considering what was given up to get him in that trade.

But the reason I bring up Poms.....I know we talked about a possible Kessel to Sota thing. A lot of the Wild fans seem to believe (based on what they've read and heard) that former Goofer Vanek is the organization's big target in FA next season.....and a significant Pominville extension now might be helpful to ease that along.

If anything, it would be nice to see Vanek go west. Guy just kills Boston.

Preseason game on NHL Network right now. Capitals vs Winnipeg. Ovechkin caught a stick up under his visor. Yuck sums it up perfectly.

He's a lucky guy. That was a lot of blood.

Congratulations to Jason Spezza on being named Ottawa's Captain! Hope he has a bounce back year.

With Matt Cooke in Minnesota, I predict that Jack Edwards will be forced to apologize to Steve Ott and the Buffalo Sabres this year...all with Cam holding him over the balcony by the throat.

It pains me to say this.....Matt Cooke has looked really impressive in the first few days of Wild camp.

*shudders*

The first line of Parise-Koivu-Pominville is buzzing. Fly-ying. Smooth as silk together. Poms appears recovered from his concussion sustained near the end of last season.

Mike Heika ‏@MikeHeika 15 m

Tyler Seguin loses puck battle along boards, and Ryan Reaves circles out and snaps one past Ellis. It's tipped by Max Lapierre. 2-1 Stars.
