You go through endless battles with people who post legitimate facts/stats/logic and yet we're supposed to accept this?

well no offense but your son is wrong.

That's being a support mother. It's nothing to do with hockey.

well he assisted you in making that list correct? a good number of those players dont even play center. so right there he is wrong about step being outside of the top 25 because he cant name 25 players who actually play center and are better than him. stepan was 21st in scoring overall last year and 11th among centers (1st american center). he also thinks step should play wing right? if anyone is top 25 at anything, they should keep doing it not try switching to a completely different position. and btw who really uses ESPN for hockey?

If you would like to continue participating in this topic I HIGHLY recommend we get back on topic.

Rangers are being live-streamed on MSG tomorrow from 11a to 1p. Looking forward to seeing some of the young guys.

Nobody cares where your son works. His opinion is absolutely worthless. Hockey + ESPN is like, logic + You. It just doesn't mesh.

Regardless, why are you asking for your son's help with an internet discussion? If you watch hockey regularly, you would know Huberdeau is not actually a center.

Any guesses on what kind of balance of youth/veterans we'll see on Monday?

stepan who plays C, a natural playmaker, was 21st in points in the nhl last year and was 9th in selke voting would be better off on the wing... i wont be taking his word anytime soon if thats how he sees things.

He's decently physically ready for NHL hockey, great year in the SHL/SEL last year. Plenty of upsides to him offensively and he's a good with defense as far as we can tell.

I do however think that Fasth is being overlooked because of his lesser point production in Traverse. I personally like Fasth better than Lindberg.

We now have a separate thread to discuss Derek Stepan. Please use it. Do NOT parttake in detailed discussions regarding Stepan here. Use the other thread.

I think his speed and finesse will work out well with our team. Looking at some of the highlights, he's pretty comfortable with working in traffic and getting to pucks in spots where our team hasn't gone to habitually in the past to score goals or just work with the puck in tight. With our glaring ??? on LW, he's listed as LW/RW and hopefully will be able to contribute toward that top 9 AV has planned out. He forechecks well and doesn't mind the dirty areas and will probably follow AV's wishes and go hard to the net. It'll be precisely what our 3rd line needs especially when you consider the glaring nothingness our 3rd/4th lines were offensively.

I never thought I'd miss the days of the ridiculous Jorts trade proposals and Pasha's unabashed love of Kristain Kudroc. The last few pages here has made that happen. Too bad I can't add a face palm from my iPad.

Arniel to the Post mentioned that Nash probably will be put in the high crease on the PP.

I like that notion. I think a -- big -- part of the problems we have had on the PP has been that first Gabby and than Nash has been put in goto position down low on the right side, and neither has really had the ability to master a PK box from that position. Which is essential in the game today.

I really like what we saw AV focus on in those drills shown.

A simple theme:
1. You win a puck in your own end.

2. You pass your way out of trouble.

3. You take the puck the length of the ice.

4. To the net.

If the forwards actually go to the net more this year that would be a good thing I would think. The team will score more goals. There will probably be a few more injuries or players banged up as well. Anyway among the many reasons why are pwp has been dysfunctional for a while is nobody screening the goalie or giving the defense a hard time. Callahan has been one of the more willing. Sometimes I'd see Zucc in there but Zucc's got the problem of staying there and not being flattened by the behemoths. I think it's one of the reasons Hagelin was not a go to guy on the pwp for Torts. Hagelin does great work in the corners--(those reversals between skating forward and backward are world class) but he's not a guy who can set up in front of the net. Rangers need a more physical element at forward on the pwp--looking particularly at Mr. Kreider--someone with the size and the skill to go to the front of the net and stay there and make things miserable for the other team while potting some goals. The other obvious candidate is Mr. Nash.

Also, this is a bit of a rant, but this is the best hockey league in the world with the best players and the most assets. AV have like 2 hrs per player to drill in a system before scrimmages today and b2b-games Monday and Tuesday. Then it just rolls on.

Of course they have some time before G1 of the season and then during he first the first months of the season. But in reality, its nothing. If AV could create his own schedule, I would bet the house on that he would mark up another 90 hrs in the practise rink before this week is over (natrually including hitting the ice earlier as a team). And, that would be moderate in comparision to how much a SHL (former SEL) team spends on the ice togehter before a season starts.

From an entertainment point of view, a big problem with this league has been that many coaches has opted to play a style in which they collapse down low and then destructive N-S style that takes away alot of room on the ice and creative hockey. The best teams has not played that style. But given how little time a coach gets to work with his team, its not hard to figure out why coaches goes with a system that you can't really fail to implement and that will be effective against other teams that fails to get it done.

Yeah, and this is one of the biggest problems I had with Torts. This is one of the areas the game has changed alot the last ten years.

It just pays off much more now to take the puck to the net off the rush, instead of playing to put it below the hash-marks before you actually try to score. You will draw penaltys. You will push D's back more because they know they will be challenged.

When you can't hook and clutch and grab, a D is vunerable against a forward that actually challenge him. Good things come of it. They back down more which leaves more room to hit trailing players etc.

Didn't see this posted yesterday:

So JT Miller still not skating, and per Strang yesterday unlikely to dress in one of the first two preseason games.

Tough break for the kid. Wonder if they will try to take him out West? Or if he will just get cut. Due to his status in the org I would guess the former but you never know.

Yea miller is going to play some preseason games. One of last cuts. Likely better to start in ahl and dominate at his age
