I'm reading on Twitter that Joel Stave may have dropped the ball before before kneeling, so technically he fumbled the ball. What a cluster**** of a ending. Too bad there aren't any replays yet.

Nevermind

There were 18 seconds left on the snap. That's plenty of time to center a ball and spike it again if the refs don't let a ****ing ASU player lay on the ball for 14 seconds and then say Wisconsin can't snap it for another 4 after that.

No he didn't.

****ing umpire just let's the dude lay on it without a delay of game or stopping the clock, then he finally sets the ball with 4 seconds but stands on the line of scrimmage saying the Badgers can't snap it. **** off with that ****.

And even if he didn't take a knee, which he did.

I think everyone can agree he simulated taking a knee.

The refs handled that very poorly. They should have stopped the clock to reset the ball after the ASU player was on top of it at least. I'm not 100% sure whether the ASU player really thought it was a fumble or if he was just trying to milk the rest of the clock on purpose. I guess I lean towards the latter explanation just because the guy stayed on top the ball for so long. Refs definitely could not have handled that any worse.

Isn't this why you wanna keep one of those timeouts for late in the game?

Obviously you'd like a timeout but with 18 seconds left there's plenty of time to center the ball, get to the LOS and spike it, assuming of course a defender doesn't jump on the ball while the refs do nothing about it.

If they assumed the ball was a fumble, I don't see why they don't jump on it.

If he had just spiked the ball right away, I don't think there would have been any confusion.

I know you're hang it all on the ref, but Wisconsin put themselves into that position by screwing around.

As an ASU alum, just... what the ****.

This win feels... empty.

I know you're hang it all on the ref, but Wisconsin put themselves into that position by screwing around.
1. The whistle blew with 14 seconds left, play is done there. At that point the ASU player either gets off the ball or is flagged for delay of game. The umpire just stood there with his thumb up his ass and the referee did nothing either.

2. Why the **** are people talking about spiking the ball? The clock was stopped, they were centering the ball in the middle of the field to make it easier for our ****** kicker to make a field goal. You only spike the ball if the clock is running and you need it to stop. They wanted to center the ball and then spike it (they practice this every week and spike it with around 5 seconds) but with the ASU player laying on the ball and the refs doing nothing about it even after they blew the play dead, they couldn't do anything about stopping the clock.

3. I hang it on the refs because it was their fault. You can't let a defender lay on the ball and waste time for 10 seconds. When they finally did get the ball there was 4 seconds and the umpire stood over the ball holding his hand out in front saying they couldn't snap the ball.

What the Badgers did was fine, if the refs had been competent at all the Badgers would have gotten a field goal attempt to win it.

Edit: OK, after reading Admiral's post above I see his point. Still, I think it would have been better if Stave had just kneeled down. I rarely have seen any QB do what Stave did there.

This is shaping up to be one of the more... "colorful" College seasons. It's fun to watch.

I agree, I do hang it on the ref, because they technically is a delay of game penalty, but you shouldn't be trying that crap with no timeouts. Doesn't matter if you practice it, aside from missing the field goal, this is the most likely way you lose the game. I'd be coaching my players to do the exact same thing, because you don't know what wacky rule is on the last page of the rulebook. I say it, seems like once a month during the NFL season, but always hand the ball to the official yourself. Don't leave it on the ground.

I agree with Ix on Oregon, I'd have tOSU 3rd over Clemson at the moment.

Can't see Michigan over FSU or Okie State right now either, though when the rankings do come out they'll probably be over Okie State. Just disagree with that.

REAL interesting game next week between Maryland and WVU. If either wins that one in impressive fashion they probably should get serious top 25 consideration.

Why? They started #2 and there's no reason they should fall for winning. They've also won the past two games with their backup Qb and that's impressive.

I'd put Clemson above OSU and Oregon, they've got by far the best win of the group. I've got Michigan bias because of my dad but they're not a top 10 team after struggling with Akron at home.
