Apparently it's even more than what it was for the Kummola Games two springs ago, so better start saving up that weekly allowance.

I might. Not a very long flight, comparable to going to Crete.

Yeah with only 3000 kilometers between eastern Finland and Sotchi it's practically a neighboring town.

??????? You can fly for like $700 to Moscow and back when I was looking found a couple $3-400 round trips from Moscow to Sochi.

I paid $1400 round trip.

Due to Geography and geopolitics, Sochi isn't close to anywhere.

I'd love to, but I can't afford it. I don't care about the politics and location- I've been to Russia and enjoyed it.

Anybody get their tickets yet? And for those who are going, would people be interested in an Hfboards get together to watch a game or two!? Would be quite fun actually to meet some of the posters here haha. How many of the Russian posters are going?!

I worked in Russia this summer about 200 miles north of Sochi, it was a good experience, the locals were great

That's so cool! We see all the Olympic venues and what not, but how was Sochi the city from a traveler's point of view?!

It's very different and backwards down in that part of Russia compared to St Petersburg and Moscow which are much more Western. Very few people spoke English down there, as they usually only get Russian holidaymakers during the summer. It's a summer resort city so most of the stores, bars and restaurants are outdoor stalls but I don't know what they do with them in the winter. Beer and food is cheap.

They're not so strict on seatbelt-wearing down in that part of the world but you should make sure you wear one; the roads are terrible!

It is not a sterotypical Russian winter climate down there, the only reason it's a venue for winter Olympics is because it's close to the mountains, in the city itself the temperature during the day will be above freezing.

I'll be willing to meet up with anybody. Been to Sochi before a few times as well if anybody wants any basic tips. Of course that might also be useless because so many things will change for the olympics.
