I dunno. The refs ****ed up, but that just seems like such a terrible play call to begin with.

Centering the ball with :15 left and plenty of time to spike. Why is that terrible? Seems rather logical.

But having the QB kneel the ball?

Running the ball? Throwing the ball? Maybe try to take advantage of getting a first down and having that stop the clock?

You aren't making any sense.

- Run? Doesn't guarantee you center it. Could fumble.
- Throw? Again...they're trying to center the ball. How does that help?

They didn't need a 1st down to stop the clock, they needed the ball marked when it should have been so they could spike it before :03. What they did made total sense when you're trying to set up kicking a field goal as time expires.

They were at like the 15 yard line

Next time he'll fall down/slide in the middle of the field like most guys do, otherwise they did everything any other team would do in that situation.

Why does everyone else try to run the ball when they center it? It's incredibly hard to **** that up.

Make a safe pass to the middle of the field or throw the ball out of bounds. It's safe.

I've never seen anyone kneel to center the ball, ever.

Because they aren't doing it in the final 15 seconds with no timeouts

I've seen quarterbacks do this countless times, except they don't leave any doubt whether their knee or body hits the ground.

If you run the ball there, naturally there could be a fumble, defenders make it hard for offensive guys to get up from the pile, etc

If Stave just slides or lays down in the middle of the field Wisconsin walks away with the win

Or if he didn't just drop the ball down like an idiot

Should have just given the ball to the ref

Except it would have the same effect if you're going to spike it. Short running plays don't take 13 seconds.

There's .000000000000001% chance of a fumble on a QB kneel

Yeldon fumbled on Saturday when everyone knew all he had to do was hold on to the ball to seal game, Ball fumbled today on the goal line, etc

Much greater chance of a fumble

Like I said, if Stave slides/falls down/makes sure he is down, gives the ball to the ref, or the refs call delay of game on ASU that game was over

Right. That was a mistake. Just hand the ball to the ref and get your team set.

You've never seen a team take a knee to center the ball? I've seen it a ton. Often times teams have a time out to use, but you see it all the time.

I don't believe I have. At least I wasn't paying attention enough to remember.

There was a QB at my high school who had the team at the goal line, down by 4 points and the time was about to tick off, he thought it was 3rd down but it was really 4th down, he spiked the ball to stop the clock and the game was over on the turnover on downs. This happened as a freshman and he never heard the end of it.

Feldman has had a good year and has a 1.77 ERA in his last 6 starts. Someone replied to me after the Soriano trade that Soriano was the Cubs first trade this season although it was 24 days after the Feldman trade.

In good local baseball news, the Schaumburg Boomers are apparently a win away from clinching the Frontier League championship.

Of course they wait to be good for when I move out of Hoffman Estates...

They are painfully boring to watch. Maybe Suarez will liven them up.
