It does not matter who we put on the second line, it will fail anyway with Sammy and Kovy. Samsonov has not show anything except his speed. Kovalev is just terrible all over the ice. I don’t care if he has an injury. Ryder had one too during last season and did not complain about it.
I hope we see a major shake-up. We all know that we aren't going to keep winning if the 2nd line doesn't produce.
Sammy/Perez - Koivu - Kovalev (Koivu is the only guy who seems to be able to work with Kovalev)
Latendresse - Plekanec - Ryder (Pleks is too good for a 4th line role)
Sammy/Perez - Bonk - Johnson (both players look good with B/J)
Begin - Lapierre - Murray (hopefully 2 crash and bang guys like Begin-Lapierre will get Murray going again)

Well, is it coincidence that Huet's seemingly won the starting goaltending job, all defensemen are just about healthy again (meaning a surplus exists), and a spot on the second line just opened up?
I'm thinking a defenseman, Aebischer and a prospect for something!

Then plug the shifty Samsonov next to Plekanec and Ryder (pretty quick line, responsible enough defensively), and keep the two bottom-lines as you suggest... that might work nicely.
I don't see the big deal. If he weren't a 10th (or whatever) overall pick, I think he'd be more objectively assessed as a so-so prospect. He looked just okay, pretty far from forcing his way onto the team.

Can I be the first to raise the point that now's the time of year when some teams start wheeling and dealing, and that this demotion does seem perplexing as far as roster personnel goes?

Indeed, the weight of the first round pick is the most overrated thing on this board and thus makes Kostsitsyn one of our most overrated prospect. He did nothing to force Carbonneau's hand but obviously I'm sure it will be a chorus of excuses from Kostsitsyn's fans on how he always get screwed. He looked okay to me wouldn't have minded if he stayed a little bit longer but his demotion is nothing worth screaming for murder.

Good point. But I'd rather have Samsonov's speed utilized here. Koivu, while quick, is no speedster. Kovalev, while fast, likes controlling the pace of the game and enjoys slowing it down. Latendresse's lack of speed won't hurt here in transition offense.

That's the kind of thing I'm hoping to see.
I've said since we got Samsonov that I'd like to see him and Ryder tried on the same line. For whatever reason, I just kind of feel like their styles would mesh well together.
So:
Latendresse - Koivu - Kovalev
Perezhogin - Bonk - Johnson
Samsonov - Plekanec - Ryder
Dandenault - Begin - Downey/Murray
That is assuming Bouillon will decide to play Wednesday. If not, we're looking at a call up of Kostitsyn or Lapierre, or else having BOTH Murray AND Downey in the line-up at the same time .

I think Sammy and Perez could both be very useful with Koivu and Kovy. As we saw last year, Perez used his speed to catch opponents by surprise while getting fed by Koivu and Kovalev. I think both of their speed would add a dynamic to that line that Latendresse can't. Latendresse would also be useful on that line, cuz he's always looking to shoot while Sammy and Perez might be looking for the perfect play.

The primary problem that I have with the line is that Samsonov and Kovalev are both puck carriers. I think they need to be seperated. At times, they're golden together, but it's a rare occasion.
Koivu also prefers being the puck carrier, but he can work the give-and-go and has demonstrated he's able to be a secondary puck-carrier on a line with Kovalev. Samsonov would essentially be rendered to the status of the complementary player on a line with those two, and his puckhandling skills would be put to waste, to a degree.
On the flip side, Samsonov could be relied upon to be a primary puckhandler with Plekanec and Ryder, so long as Ryder doesn't lose the puck in his skates too often.
Either way this is likely all for naught as I don't expect a major reshuffling of the top two lines.... but, I do believe the third and fourth lines outshone the first two by a wide margin versus Atlanta.
