Ryan White upside - Michael Ryder?

I never had the chance to see Ryan White play, and I know he wasn't impressive at the Habs Camp this Fall. He is however apparently doing well in the WHL this far, and reading is bio remembered me partly of Ryder's one, altought White seems to have more the courage of Steve Bégin while he having the skating of Micheal Ryder. I remember reading the Chipchura comparison too.

Anyway, he seems like a lock as a future 3rd/4th line forward, but will he translate in an energy guy only or does he possess the tools to reach the 2nd line?

Right now, I would say no...he don't have the offensive skills of Ryder at all. He's more of a playmaker and he's more gritty and physical. He will be a valuable player, but might never play on a top two line, but he's still young and he might boom when he'll be faster. Right now, his upside is a good 3rd line player who will ship in from time to time...

His biggest upside for me would be 3rd line with some offensives to his game. His speed, his physical play and his energy is his greatest assets, I'm a little surprised by his stats so far, he didn't show too much of his hands and shot at the development camp I attended. But if somebody can upgrade his play, it's him, seems to love the game and possess the greatest of work ethic. But I really don't see him as part of the first 2 lines of any hockey team....(but I wasn't sure about Higgins as well..... )

Would be great if White had Ryder's release and ability to get the shot off but White seems to be a good setup guy. I don't know his faceoff stats but I wonder if he won't end up on the wing vs center. He strength seems to be along the boards. He does have that compact frame though, not tall but looks thick. Like Ryder his skating needs work.

Everything I've heard and read makes me think of Brian Skrudland, for those old enough to remember.

I think of him more along the lines of a Begin/Keane type myself.

We have to be old to remember Brian Skrudland? Gee! Thanks for the reality check! Be happy : except for my older daughter who makes me feel old when I tell her my age and she can't conceive such numbers (she's only 4 1/2), you're the first to make me feel old...

Probably... But certainly not in the playoffs against the Rangers, if we can consider such a stat on a single-playoffs-opponent basis.

So he would have led the Habs in fastest goal by a Hab in the playoffs against the Rangers in the month of May....

Anyway, he might get a shot at the WJC... I at least expect Maxwell to be there, but wish a fourth line energy guy like White could be selected.

I can't see White getting any consideration as his skating is pretty awful. I love his work ethic and he does have pretty good vision but this guy is a project who has to dramatically improve his skating to have any chance of ever playing in the NHL.

I knew that too. I didn't want to make Artie feel bad. Hey, it's not like I've never missed my nap.
