Def in our top 9. If Hall keeps jiving with Hemsky, lines get strange. Yak played great with Horc last year so this is what I may try. I don't think we necessarily need the top 6 to be all our skilled forwards. If Eakins likes pairs I think something like this maybe works:

Hall - Nuge - Yak/Hemsky
Joensuu - Gagner - Eberle
Perron - Gordon - Hemsky/Yak
Smyth - Acton - Jones (no idea about our 4th line yet)
Brown

Why would we play Perron in the bottom 6?

Imo, Joensuu has the edge on Jones right now for the 3rd line

One problem with your theory. The player has to actually sign the contract

Bu-bu-but when he signed people were saying that he is a OKC signing or 4th liner at best.

Right now, to start the season:

Perron-Hall-Eberle
Joensuu-Gagner-Yakupov
Jones-Gordon-Hemsky
Smyth-Acton-Brown
Eager

Omark to the farm to start the season. Still a decent depth forward and will really light up the AHL (again).

4th line C is a serious weakness, but I guess when Nuge returns, Acton goes to OKC.

D:

Petry-Smid
J. Schultz - Nurse (for opening night)
N. Schultz - Ference
Larsen - Grebeshkov
Potter - Belov
Marincin
Klefbom

Nurse needs to be damn good to stay though - since waivers are a factor. I would not be overly opposed to carrying 9 D to start the season - 12 forwards, with a somewhat strange line of Eager-Smyth-Brown. If you have to make a call, you probably waive Potter.

My sincere hope is that Nurse goes back to the OHL for one more year and is a major factor on the WJC team. He would come back next season and be truly ready for the rigors of an NHL season, with 10-15 pounds of muscle added to his frame. We of course save a year on his ELC too.

Alex Pietrangelo played 8 and 9 games respectively in his first two eligible years. Good strategy for development by the Blues.

Smyth is in until he retires no question about that.

I guess "Brad" Ference is going to OKC.

Word...not used to the new guy, edited that. Our D is much, much better heading into this season. A lot of depth to make a deal too.

Dont know about that.. No one is trading for Potter, Larsen, Grebeshkov or even N.Schultz.

Klefbom & Marincin dont look NHL ready and rushing Nurse would be stupid.

Just noticed on the oiler app they have lines up which are:

Hall nuge eberle
Perron gagner yakupov
Jones Gordon Hemsky
Smyth lander brown

Weird.

I think it pretty much ends up that way except joensuu factors in on the 3rd or 4th line.

I see our 4th center getting 3 min of ice a night will Hall getting double shifted as 1st line LW and 4th line Center

Buffalo Sabres ‏@BuffaloSabres 54s
#Sabres defensive pairings at morning skate: Tallinder-Ristolainen. Zadorov-Myers. McNabb-Pysyk.

Feel sorry for the guy that tries to split those two and gets caught.

Some people are getting awful carried away about johensu (sp?) @nd line? No freaking way.

People are really excited to get some size in our top 6.

With that said though, I have only once in 3 games seen JJ out of position, if he can continue to make big hits and plays without losing a step vs faster more skilled forwards he will be worth a look. He also has been having his line mates mixed up and been in the bottom few lines at times in these games, lining him up with better players consistently could really show his potential if there is any to see. Which I as a fan really hope there is.

Are you watching the games? Not sure what more you can expect from the player.
With Hall playing C there arent many LW options left for 2nd line LW.

Smyth and Jones are his competition unless Yak plays the off wing again.

I expect him to be what he was brought in here for, a 3rd/4th line player with size, some grit a wee bit of skill. We have top six forwards and most of our top six has played well the last two years.

Darnell Nurse is good enough to make this team.

But it is probably best long term to send him to the OHL.
Damn, though... He looks like a gem!

Nothing ground breaking in this post, but I just had to state the obvious.

We have enough skill that there is more than just the typical "top 6" option. Also Eakins likes pairs supposedly.

It would be nice to have some size in the top 6 so it might not be a bad idea to try him there... I've thought this since we signed him though and him doing well now is making me think it will probably happen

except Perron has proven to be a far better player than Joensuu.

I don't know how in any stretch of the imagination you can take a couple of good preseason games and make Joensuu to be a second line player. especially over Perron.

We get the most equal amounts of size and skill when we keep Hall at center after Nuge gets back... Depends if we want to have 3 great lines and 1 alright one.

or 2 amazing lines and 2 alright ones.

I'm happy with Joensuu as a 3rd liner and I wouldn't mind him getting a bump to the 2nd or 1st line at times if the game gets chippy or we need a different element to those lines in particular games. IMO Joensuu and Gordon gives us 2/3's of a solid 3rd line.

This is a big thing. I want to see Gordon play with Joensuu and Hemsky. Gordon hasn't looked completely lost (as I thought he would) in the offensive zone. If they can form a decent shutdown line that can pot in some goals, as soon as RNH comes back, we could have a bonafide 1st, bonafide 2nd, a great 3rd, and scrubs on the fourth (we're still missing something)

I don't know what line he gets onto, but if he keeps this up all camp, he is a lock to make the team. I am very impressed so far. We'll see how he does as more guys get cut and the skill level goes up against other teams.

Some Islanders fan responding to an Oilers fan suggesting that Snow was nuts for letting Joensuu go.

Quote:
Not really, Joensuu wouldn't have been in the Isles starting lineup.
Huh. When did the Islanders accumulate such enviable depth?

Fans get so fat-headed once their team turns the corner/makes the post-season.

They are correct though. Joensuu was not exactly consistent in his play and there is a reason he was let go. He's looked rather solid with Edmonton, but we'll see what happens over a longer time period and in the regular season.

*shrugs* I'm looking over their roster right now and I see a fit for him on their fourth line. A lot of scouts seem to think that he's poised to break out as a pro this year. We'll see.
