Murray was traded from a playoff team and saw his ice time increasingly getting reduced with age, even with the pens. He's still a bottom pairing d-man, but you need to put things into perspective.

Diaz, on the other, received MORE minutes from his first season. More not less.

Both are bottom pairing D-men, let's not kid ourselves. I think Diaz is still better and with Tinordi looking upwards and Emelin returning, Murray could be the odd man out.

So we have a bottom-pairing d-man out of the lineup. Following that argument, you would think we have an above-average D. Then, how come everyone is pissing on it as soon as Price lets bad goals or counterperforms? And everyone who's objective here will know that it's exactly what happens...

There are so many contradictions here it's not even funny.

If the team had 9 bottom pairing D-men, one would still be out of the lineup.

The habs have defensive depth, doesn't necessarily mean it's quality, but it has depth.

Seriously, I can't believe I have to explain that.

We have 2 d-men in our top-5 scorers, and one of them is a Norris trophy winner. Everyone's admission is that Gorges is a top-4 d-man as well.

We sure don't have any quality.

I certainly hope a guy like Gorges, will rebound from his dismal season last year...preseason and they are dropping like flies, now we know why you need at least 8 NHL dmen around...

Actually Tinordi's competition is Murray since they have the potential to deliver the same type of value to the team: size, toughness, shutdown, PK minutes. One can argue that Tinordi can even replace Diaz during Emelin's absence since Diaz doesn't offer any shutdown value as a 4th defenseman being paired with Markov.

In the short term (1-2 yrs), the Habs defence can look like this if Markov, Emelin and Diaz resign (Shutdown -SD & Offensive - OF):

Gorges (SD) - Subban (OF)
Markov (OF) - Emelin (SD)
Tinordi (SD) - Diaz (OF) - can swap Diaz with any 7th defenseman (i.e. Pateryn) for a double shutdown line

In the long term (3-5 yrs), it might look more like this:

Tinordi (SD) - Subban (OF)
Beaulieu (OF) - Emelin (SD)
Gorges (SD) - Dietz/Nygren (OF) - where Emelin or Gorges will be either #4 or #5 depending on current play and we trade the #5 for a cheaper option

He's just completely awful. I can't believe how many times I see the most atrocious defensive zone break down lead to a goal and see Bouillon standing there behind the play shaking his head.

What about a collision between Bouillon et DD that puts them out long-term.

I'd rather trade if they had value, but this works through the principle of addition by subtraction.

Beaulieu is skating with the extras. Good sign. I hope we see him this weekend.

#Habs Beaulieu (shoulder) will not play this weekend but is practising with the team's second group. Plan is still to play him in pre-season

Guys of Tinordi's size and style aren't generally even ready for the big show before 23-24 years old, minus some exception. The kid is 21.

For what it's worth, Tinordi is not even the most impressive rookie out there on D. It would be Pateryn.
That is great news, two young D with size ready to play in the NHL with Beaulieu just about ready. Dietz seems to be impressing, hopefully he does well on the farm.

The habs want more than one of these types of players in the line-up. Murray is not going to be taken out of the line-up for Tinordi, unless Boullion outplays him.

Updated the first post with all injury news, and will continue to do so throughout the year, as usual.

If anyone has info I'm missing (Quailer/Nattinen) please post it and I'll update.

Subban started with Gill.
Cowen was mainly paired with Phillips last season.

LET'S ****ING PAIR TINORDI WITH RAFAEL DIAZ!

Excellent idea. What could possibly go wrong? Diaz is such a good mentor after all.
Wrong. Both Cowen and Phillips are playing left side....

Isn't Quailer technically out with a concussion until he gets activated somewhere, sometime?
