Before the Edmonton-Vancouver game, there was a package about shot blocking for the Canucks. They spoke to one of the twins and had a few clips of the Rangers players blocking shots.

Quote:
Now consider this year he’ll be doing it in front of players who are tackling a new system, one Luongo didn’t exactly request. Because, under Tortorella, the emphasis will be — now, tomorrow and always — blocking shots.

What does it mean for Luongo?

The team in front of him is going from making blocking shots one of its last options to one of its first. And those reads he’s taken time to get down before may be that much more complicated this year. No can be sure where a blocked puck is going.

Does he have any words of advice?

“You better block it, because if you don’t, I won’t see it,” Luongo said. “A couple of times guys were trying to block shots but they weren’t sure if they should or not and they didn’t end up blocking them.

“It goes along with the territory. There will be a learning curve. In the past, we’ve worked on trying to box guys out before they get to the front of the net. If ever the other player is in front, I’d front him or stay behind him to try and not create a double screen.

“Sometimes that worked. Sometimes it didn’t.”

Tortorella isn't adjusting his style based on the talent on the team. According to some people here, the Rangers have no talent and players capable of making a single offensive play with the puck so Torts had no choice but to play a very conservative style and block every shot. Tortorella has fallen in love with shot blocking. It doesn't matter how much talent the team has or the Canucks must not be a talented team. Poor Tortorella. Always catching the team at a down cycle.

Its hard to shot block your way to a championship. Tortorella views it as a part of playing defense.

"I think shot blocking is part of playing good defense," Tortorella said. "I think it's part of play to get the puck back. So it's not just the Sedins. I think a team takes on a whole mindset of being a harder team to play against, a team that'll play along the boards, a team that'll give themselves up to get the puck back, defend the proper way. It does, it permeates through your team.

"So that is going to be asked, of not just the Sedins, but everybody, because I think that's the proper way to play the game when you don't have the puck
."

Just walked by Joe Micheletti in midtown. He was wearing a snazzy red sweater. Gave him a nod.

Funny he's the first celeb I've seen since I started working.

Clowe got hit by Dalhuisen 1:10 into game in Isles end and got up slowly. Played two shifts after that and did not return.

Clowe couldn't get through preseason without getting hurt. The Rangers dodged a bullet. Not that they had the space to sign Clowe.

And as Ryane Clowe fell to the ice and struggled to get back up, Glen Sather's musty voice echoed throughout Prudential Center....

*Damaged goods......*

As the crowd deadened with anxiety and fret, once again Uncle Glen's voice vibrated from out of nowhere....

*4.85 Million dollars....*

Cory Schneider is casting spells, I'm convinced.

Former partner in Luongo lets in 4 goals in the first period followed up by his current partner in goaltending tandem, Martin Brodeur letting in 4 goals in the first period.

I think the 5 years is the more confounding part of that Clowe contract. Lou must have been sniffing glue that day.

Like Jessica Pearson said to Harvey Specter after Daniel Hardman took control of Pearson Hardman.

"We just took a hit. You don't make life decisions when you're reeling from a loss"

Teams back in the day only had one or two guys who would go down to block a shot. Morrow on the Isles. Ramsey on Buffalo. Jay Wells on LA. Rod Langway in DC. Brad Marsh in Philly. I have always stated that going down to block a shot takes you out of a play, and if you don't block it, you essentially create a 5-on-4.

And as Luongo stated, getting into the shooting lanes is a nightmare of goaltenders. How many times did people on GDT's say "I'm sick of all these deflections" or "Henrik was screened".

Collapsing five guys below the dots is a recipe for disaster. Teams with garbage goalies or no scoring can do that. Maclean did it in Florida, Trotz did it in Nashville.

The bridle is off now. Thank God.

Either that or he picked a bad day to give up sniffing glue.
