The Blackhawks had 16 fights last season, or tied for the third fewest in the NHL. If this team fails it won't be because of a lack of fighters.

lol, still caring about people who can/will fight.

I don't know how much more irrelevant one major aspect of a sport can be to winning the championship of said sport.

Without a doubt, I think people just forget about him. We have way too many forwards that can play, not a bad problem.

I agree on the irrelevance of the fighting argument. Quite honestly, I'm sick of hearing it.

Love what I've seen from Lindberg and Fast, but moreso Lindberg. It wouldnt hurt Fast to start in CT. Still undecided about Kristo.

I hate staged fights, but I'd like for our players to stand up for one another if someone gets Carcillo'ed. That has more to do with a team mindset than fighting ability.

That's why you have Dorsett and hopefully Asham.

Out of all the years, I think this is the one where the Rangers end up carrying a full 23. There should be cap space with 6M off the books to compile in the early month with Hags and Cally out, and this year's team will play to match-ups, not play injured players, and dress toughness as needed. The fact that there seems to be a consensus line-up bodes well, because quite a few people are seeing the same thing, and that's a team with depth, and one that is in win now mode.

When it's all said and done:

Hags-Step-Cally
Kreider-Richards-Nash
Pouliout-Brass-MZA
Boyle-Moore-Dorsett

Black Aces/AHL depth

Pyatt-Powe-Asham
Miller-Lindberg-Fast
Hrivik-St.Croix-Kristo
Bourque-Jean-Haley

McD-G
Staal-DZ
Moore-Stralman

Black Aces/AHL

Johnson Syvret
Falk Bickel
Allen McIlrath

This is a pretty stacked organization.

I agree about the 23, especially early in the year, when it'll actually be 25 including the injuries. But, as a technicality, the money for injured players doesn't come off the books. It allows you to spend by that amount over the cap. It doesn't get compiled.

So is everyone convinced that Richards is going to bounce back? I see a lot of Richards in the top 6. I completely lost confidence in the guy after last season and it's not like he'd young, maybe he's past his prime. Really wish our top 3 centers were Stepan, Brassard, and Lindberg.

thats alot of depth in terms of quantity more than quality...that ahl depth won't make up for the fact that we might be missing stepan, cally, hagelin and who knows what we'll get out of richards. the top 6 to start the year scares me

I agree with you about Richards--watched him stink up the ice all season (even when he was scoring at the end of the season) and was quite sickened by the way he played in the playoffs. But, veterans earn the benefit of the doubt in this organization, so he's back for the year and will probably center one of the top two lines (and plenty of power play time) until he either stinks up the joint again and/or gets pushed out by the hotter hand. The situation with Stepan has nothing to do with it.

For the sake of the team, I hope Richards is better. And also hope the situation with Stepan is resolved soon--regardless of how Richards plays, the Rangers need him too.

as much as I love fighting in hockey, I'd rather have guys who can play the game well like D.Moore and Pouliot than traffic cones like a McGrattan or a Rupp. NYR are still a very hit-happy team and will still be really hard to play against, even if they don't fight like 10 times a game. If they stand up for eachother and don't take cheapshots from another team lightly, I'll be more than pleased.

And yes I know it'd be lovely to have guys who can play + fight, but those guys are incredibly hard to find, and tend to be very expensive. The one guy that fits that mold I'd have liked this offseason was Kyle Clifford. Other than that, we better start drafting our own.

One reason I can't wait for Yogan and Kantor to be regulars. Both have size, can hit and can forecheck down low... I would have liked McLeod Clifford or a kid like Matt Fraser who got dealt in the Eriksson deal..

The first month:

Kreider - Brass - Nash
MZA - Step - Miller
Pouliot - Brad - Dorsett
Boyle - Moore - Fast
Pyatt, Asham/Haley on the bench

Hags, Cally on LTIR

===================

After the return of Hags and Cally:

Hags - Brass - Nash
MZA - Step - Cally
Kreider - Brad - Miller
Pouliot - Moore- Boyle

I wish we could combine Boyle and Pouliot to acquire one solid middle-6 player, preferably a LW.

Care to share your list? Just curious.

I wouldn't rank Girardi at place #14 but he wouldn't be too much after in my list. Whatever the case, I hardly think that makes the list irrelevant. It's impossible to get a consensus on something like this and it's refreshing to see someone with their own opinions that aren't completely mainstream.

The Rangers have the day off today. Not yesterday. The team skated yesterday in Banff before the charity gold event. The CBA calls for players to have two days off during training camp.

Quote:
Rangers captain Ryan Callahan has played with Richards off and on for going on two years now.

You can see it in him, he seems like a new guy, Callahan said. Hes come in excited. The thing about Richie is, hes a pro. He realizes he needs a bounce back from last year, but hes done it for so many years. I expect great things from him.

The Rangers are currently missing Callahan and Carl Hagelin, both recovering from off-season shoulder surgery, and Derek Stepan because of a contract dispute.

Im very confident in the team, Richards said. We have a whole line out right now. If you put that line back in, its a pretty good line and we still have other good players. We feel pretty deep at all positions.

Two years ago, we were one win away from going to the Stanley Cup final, so were definitely in the mix. There are so many things that go into it. Weve got him in net, Richards said, pointing at Lundqvist and our [defence] is great and we have some good depth at forward. Now, weve just got to put it together.
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sport...ticle14431615/

Two wins away. They blew the Jersey series. Up 2-1 in the series and lost 3 straight.

Richards had 66 points in his first year. He was on pace for 60 last season. Richards will most likely be in that range again.

He sucked at Traverse City and didn't do much at camp. He was assigned to the AHL camp on 9/18.

I've always seen Girardi as an OK #2 who needs a good partner.

I was then compelled to analyze just how much he has been carried by McD/Staal over the past three seasons. The results were quite surprising. Though I guess it is in line with Girardi being one of the worst breakout defencemen in the league.

Let's just say I'm in the "If Girardi demands more than $4M/year, trade him" camp.

A modest increase wouldn't be bad, but if he plays a complete game and puts up 65-70 it will be a huge boost. Last year despite a decent ppg pace his overall game was garbage.

Not entirely sold on him bouncing back, but I hope he does.

Haven't seen anything yet to make me think Miller deserves or has earned a top six role. I don't think he's a lock to even make the team.
