On the subject of the rumoured trades; they won't happen. No rumoured trade under Bob Gainey has ever come to pass. Whenever he makes a deal it's out of nowhere.

Nobody has that money available, nobody.
Pittsburgh, Columbus, St. Louis and Washington all have 11mill+ space under the cap. Even a team like Carolina has over 7 million in cap space...

Jam Ninny and remove Komo and it's a deal!

Seriously, someone says something and it gets blownout of proportion. I don't think it's a good idea to trade with Philly anyways...remember how the Habs got ***** the last time?? I know Recchi was the best player in the deal but losing Desjardins still hurts, not to mention Leclair.

There've been Hab Philly trades since then, including Recchi back to Philly for Zubrus, and Eric Chouinard for a second round choice.

As for that Canuck deal, no thanks.

I'd certainly consider Souray, Aebi and Samsonov for Forsberg and a draft pick or other player ...we don't need Calder, I don't see him being part of the deal.

The Habs aren't going to sign all three of the big UFA defencemen I don't think, so dealing one now for one of he best players of this generation sounds okay to me. I could see Forsberg playing really well in Montreal.

Our forward lines would be up there with any team in the league IMO:

Ryder Forsberg Kovalev
Higgins Koivu Latendresse
Perez Bonk Johnson
Begin Plekanec Lapierre

I think Forsberg would make Ryder a 40-goal scorer in a hurry.

Or this:

Higgins Forsberg Ryder
Latendresse Koivu Kovalev
Perez Bonk Johnson
Begin Plekanec Lapierre

Lats and Kovy both play well with Saku, and Koivu would finally be playing his ideal role - one of the two best second line centers in the league (along with Marleau).

A blog site had the Ribeiro-Niinimaa trade posted 2-3 weeks before it happened.

That's what Galley said on the Team1200 when the caller piped in about the rumored Habs deal "he saw on the net". Then both Galley and JR bandied about the idea that it could be a Theo for Forsberg type of thing. Good luck with that Philly! Just pure rumors though.

That rumour is funnier than Kramer going KKK at the comedy club.

If San Jose gets Forsberg, they easily become the deadliest team offensively.

Michalek, Thornton, Cheechoo, Marleau, Forsberg...

Damn.

No teams would do this unless they are completly stupid.
is Milbury still a GM anywhere?

And we end up seeing Niinimaa in a habs uniform.

Haven't seen any highly talented prospects being traded for pluggers and hasbeen's, so i guess Milbury is still Wang's *****.

The only Dman I would trade would be Rivet. I doubt they would take Ninny unless we throw in another Dman in the minors.

Send Philly Abby, Samso, Ninny and Cote. That is fair for Forsberg.

I hate when rumours like this get out, because when a rumour gets out, it almost seems like the trade won't happen. This is the type of deal that I would love to see happen, because regardless of injury, Forsberg makes this team better down the middle and is a guy who can eat up tough minutes. However, because this has been talked about over the radio waves and on the internet, I doubt it happens. Shame!

(1) Forsberg has a no trade clause and would have to approve of any deal.
(2) We would have to dump a lot of salary for a player who is entering UFA to potential retirement and is often hurt or playing hurt, the gamble is too large and tooo risky.
(3) There is a link: http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=313960 This guy is saying he made the whole thing up and some one else ran with the story to the radio station.

I beleive this as much as I believe Montreal will get Vinnie from Tampa.

I wouldn't touch Forsberg, not at this point in his career. Too injury prone, too many questions about his knees.

It can be waved and I dont doubt he would wave his ntc to get out of there.

It's exactly the opposite of your reasoning. Since he will be UFA he will cost less. If he disapoints you arent stuck with a huge contract that you will have to carry for many years. Durring the summer you are free to sign an other UFA or resign Forsberg.

I had to point out why I dont think point 1 and 2 are that great arguments. That being said it by no means signifies that I think a trade would happen....point 2 is actualy one of the only reasons why I would entertain the possibility of trading for Him.

update from Spectors...

HOCKEYBUZZ.COM: Philadelphia Inquirer hockey columnist Tim Panaccio reports both Flyers GM Paul Holmgren and forward Peter Forsberg deny the rumour claiming Forsberg could be traded soon. Forsberg said he doesn't want to move, reminding fans he has a no-trade clause in his contract. Forsberg did admit he'll mull retirement if his current foot problems aren't soon resolved.

Spector's Note: Hat tip to GJ Berg. If Forsberg does leave the Flyers this season it appears it'll be due to retirement from injuries rather than a trade.

Point 2 is the most difficult because he is getting 5.75 per season and we would be on the hook for at least 4 million. They would be carring 3 goalies and the whole point of getting Forsberg would be for him to play with Kovy and Sammy so point 2 is probably the strongest arguement.
