The Winter Classic is basically just another game to me at this point. If the 24/7 series' stopped then I would completely lose all interest in it.

It was a good idea for a while but now Bettman & the NHL ran it into the ground.

Yup...NHL turns everything into a gimmick. Hockey is a niche sport..Bettman needs to come to terms with this instead of constantly tinkering like a mad scientist

Agreed, eventually it won't sell well and they'll stop doing it.

They could do it Philly every year and it would be sold out constantly

It will always sell well as long as it's one or certainly very few games and they select competitive teams. Not hard to imagine a Flyer-Caps game selling out around the holidays as is, then throw in the amusement of it being outdoors and you have a sellout. I'm sure casual fans will still enjoy it. NBC will cover it as part of their TV deal.

As an annual event, it was always going to lose its luster over time. It will still be wildly popular in the years where they get lucky with snow falling or otherwise frigid temperatures which add to the visual of it all.

The WC will always sell out quite easily if they keep it in markets that can support it. Just idiotic to think otherwise.

That's why its hanging out in certain areas. NY/WASH/PHIL/BOS/TOR/DET/CHI.

Stay in the big cities and it'll blow up.

I just hope he won't end up like Marek Schwarz (St. Louis 1st round pick in 2004) or Tomas Popperle (had a few chances with CBJ but never lived up to the hype; I mean hype in the Czech republic)

By the way, just a little personal experience. About a year ago I had a chance to meet him, Ales Kotalik and Milan Michalek (they are all from the same region and did some charity there) - somebody asked Kovar about whether he is superstitious or not. Kovar answered that "he is not superstitious and therefore he doesn't have any pregame rituals - because he believes that rituals bring bad luck."
Kind of a beauty pageant answer if you ask me
Nevertheless, he is a very kind and down to earth guy
Do you think he'll represent the Czech Republic in the Olympics?

Haha nice story.

The Midwest and the Northeast/Atlantic are the only places that can support it. It sounds crappy, but there's no appeal to watching Anaheim play L.A. in Vegas, just none. About the only team from out West that may be alright is Colorado, but they would have to play a big time rival like Detroit to drum up enough interest.

Now the latest rumor is it'll be Boston or Philly. Maybe since we are division rivals, we are given the edge.

I'm not sure. It depends on whether Vokoun will be willing to come back to the national team (he retired from national duty about a year ago IIRC) and how the rest of our goalies in the KHL will play. My opinion is that Pavelec is a lock and if Vokoun agrees, he will be a lock too. Then there is the number three spot in the press box - I think Kovar will compete for this spot with Stepanek and probably Mrazek.

Edit: Oh and I forgot Salak. This guy has been fantastic lately (although his last stint in the NA was unfortunate, above 5 GAA in Florida). I would put Salak's chances one level above the group I mentioned - Kovar, Stepanek, Mrazek (not Mrazek's potential, but current state)

Krys Barch and Brett Gallant apparently was able to circumvent the new helmet rule by taking each others helmets off.

So Pierre Lebrun has an article on tsn.ca and in it he talks with Gagne: "I respect the Flyers organization, especially Mr. Snider and Peter Luukko. I'll leave it at that."

Its nice to know other people think Homer is a dirtbag.

Gagne is undoing alot of the respect he's built up in his career. Just shut up and move on.

What's the beef with the Winter Classic? I don't care if they do a game every five years or ten games a year, it's still cool. It may not be as "special" when it happens more and more, but it is still a great event to get that many people outdoors in the cold watching hockey. Find something else to complain about.

That's hilarious! I was actually thinking that how long it'll take before some guys try that out.

Gagne needs to worry about convincing one of the other 29 GMs to give him a job.

I hear he's also a potential front-runner for the Vezina and the Preakness.

I heard he parted the Red Sea while walking on water that he then turned to wine.

Tavares is the only player allowed to wear a crown on top of his helmet. He doesn't take advantage of it though, because he's a real good guy and wants to keep himself on the same level as the rest of the players.

We must be nice. He was the best player in the league last year. The 16 players that out scored him cheated and may or may not be sentenced to a public shaming

Tavres kills penalties without even being on the ice. He's that good.

Not sure where to ask this. But can any one explain why our goal tendiers for this year are being rake so bad over the coals. When I look at the stats from last year it doesn't make sense. I realize that this may be a big question mark but just confused a bit. I see an upgrade of sorts.
