Well the original rumour included Sammy and Abby in the trade. If we deal Abby and an other player we easily free up the money. We allready have nearly 3 mill free. And if we send Niinimaa down we free up an other 2 mill if I'm not mistaken. And I disagree when you say the reason to get Frosberg would be to have him play with Sammy and Kovy. Lines without Sammy would look better in my book. Lats - Forsberg - Kovy would be nice. I could definetly see Lats scoring his fair share of goals on passes from Forsberg. Or if not Lats then Higgins.

The short version is. Trade Abby and send down Niinimaa and I think you'd have enough room under the cap.

It's fun to discuss but it's not going to happen. But the mental exercise is interesting.

Who cares, Samsonov is obviously not working here right now. Not to mention a few weeks ago he wanted out of MTL then retracted his comments

Danis of course, I think he's ready, even if he's having difficulty's in the AHL right now.

- Forsberg makes 5.75 mill (cap hit @ 75% would be just shy of 4 mill).
We have the space if Samsonov and Abby are included. I would trade Rivest for the defenceman involved. Then we really would have the cap space

- We will have the most injury prone 1-2 punch at Center in the league (Koivue/Forsberg)
My only problem is that Forsberg quits the NHL at the end of the year instead of resigning with MTL. Then we would lose in this trade, unless it brings us a cup next spring then I wouldn't care if he doesn't resign

Spector's Note: Hat tip to GJ Berg. If Forsberg does leave the Flyers this season it appears it'll be due to retirement from injuries rather than a trade.
He's way to young to retire

Yes ! i wouln't touch a 90-100 points per season player because he's too injury prone , and too many question about his knees .

We are more safe with our first line center ...He just produces 55-60 points per year , but at least , he's not injury prone and his knees are solid as rocks ...

But one guy called the Niinima-Ribeiro trade 2-3 week before it happened.

Perhaps the Gainey code has been solved?

on one hand can not see it happening, but on the other if it does we surely would have a much strong team, and if peter does not play next year...well we lose huge

Well, in the new NHL, you never know, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah

Face it, summer will be the only time now to get excited about player movement.

+ If the Flyers wait and Forsberg's ankle gets better, they will be able to get a much etter goalie than Aebischer for him. I don't see Forsberg coming to MTL anytime soon.

Hmm, I'll entertain you for a minute. He has only had 100+ point seasons twice, his last in 02/03. He hasn't played 82 games since 95/96.

He has a whopping 13 points this season, less than Koivu, Souray and Markov.

We most certainly are, and you are kidding yourself if you think otherwise. This team rides the character of Koivu, he's the catalyst. Need I remind you of last season's playoffs, how the team collapsed with the departure of Saku?

As long as Markov is not part of the deal I would do it.

I don't think we are looking for a goalie. A healthy Nitty + half-decent Forsberg would be better than a slight upgrade #1 goalie and nothing. Our defensive corps is atrocious, and our scorers are not scoring to their ability. Esche sucks this year, but Nitty has been OK, just hurting. I am looking at young top 4 defenseman (or prospect with that type of potential), and a 1st. I also think we wait for the deadline to pull the trigger. Forsberg's foot can heal and his value will be highest with teams bidding for him. If Forsberg is traded for Theodore or Aebischer (the last two rumors I've heard), I will personally call Zack Hill, the Flyers' Senior Director of Communications, and tell him to communicate "GO **** YOURSELF" to Paul Holmgren for me.

I think most people would agree that Gainey did try to get Shanahan and it was reported all over the media so yes sometimes stuff do leak out ... maybe it's not Gainey's who is leaking it but still ..it's not like you can't get a rumor about the habs

I can not believe no one has mentioned the biggest problem.

WHO WEARS 21? The fact that Higgins is 21 and the Canadiens best player before his injury means that no way Forsberg comes to montreal.
