Ryan McDonagh

Just a random thought: would the Rangers ever consider trading this guy?

I imagine he would command a king's ransom in trade.

Just curious what Ranger fans think he would bring back.

Would love him on the Avs. Would probably take one of our young stars though.

Also wouldn't mind trading for MDZ.

A better defenseman or superstar forward.

Whatever you're thinking, add more. A young top pairing d man who's signed long term with a very friendly cap hit doesn't grow on trees.

Untouchable as they come unless your giving up an elite dman/forward who is under 28

Id give Desharnais and Leblanc.

Have to get even for last time.

Id probably be willing to give a package involving Gallagher+Gorges. Along those lines.

Gomez??

Seriously think talent wise they'd be looking at someone like Pacioretty but I think Ryan is on the high end - won't say overpaid - but think that hurts his value somewhat + Rangers are in the worst shape of any team next year cap wise with $32MM tied up on only 6 players under contract and some big names to try and re-sign starting with King Henry but also Captain Callahan, Girardi & MDZ to name a few

Playing on their need to shed space I'd offer up Beaulieu & a 1st then try and move Markov somewhere to replace the 1st

I didn't mean to reopen old wounds - sorry Habs fans, I forgot that. Well, the Wild traded Leddy AND Johnsson for Barker, which is equally

Ranger fans, back to you....

And what else? It'd take quite a bit more besides that. Keep adding and don't stop until it hurts.

Yeah, his 250k more a year than Pacioretty makes him that way. Don't you know?

Prospects or picks. We cant gut our current team unless it DD or Gionta.

What else would it take?

What would it take for the Habs to move Subban? You wouldn't do it unless you were absolutely blown away. It's the same situation for the Rangers...

He's one of the most untouchable pieces on that roster. Lundqvist is the only one who is clear cut more important IMO.

I dont think we need to get into a Subban VS McDonagh debate but Im pretty sure a Norris winner has more value than a more defensive minded defender.

That was nowhere near his point.

McDonagh is worth to the Rangers what Subban is to the Habs.

McDonagh is a complete stud and honestly, if I had to pick one defenseman to start a team around considering age and contract, I think McDonagh would be one of my top 3 picks.

None of them are currently better. You are seriously underrating McDonagh.

Anecdotal evidence is always the best evidence!

Here are defensemen with similar cap hits and contract lengths, per CapGeek:

Niklas Kronwall
Jason Garrison
Alex Edler
Marc-Edouard Vlasic
Jack Johnson
Zack Bogosian
Dustin Byfuglien

All of these guys range from, at best, on par with McDonagh, to, at worst, tangibly inferior. McDonagh's deal is perfectly fine right now and will look silly in 3 years when the Salary Cap is up by $10 million and he's an even better player.

The answer is just no. Not no in that there is nobody he could be traded for, but no in that the player it would take, you wouldn't give up.
