“I think confidence is the biggest difference for me from the first camp,’’ Namestnikov said.
Quote:
“Vladdy went from potential healthy scratch (at the start of the season) to a guy that was hurt, to a top-six forward, and he did that all in one year,’’ said Lightning coach Jon Cooper, who was the coach with Syracuse before being promoted to Lightning bench boss. “So that’s a really, really good sign of a prospect to see somebody do that.

“Regardless of what happens here, whether he makes the Tampa Bay Lightning or he has to go back and get more seasoned in Syracuse, there is just bright signs ahead for him, because you can tell the way he has developed himself in his first year pro.’’
Quote:
“He is really aware on the ice and just has an extremely high skill set,’’ Cooper said.

Since his draft year, when Namestnikov tipped the scales around 165 pounds, he has bulked up to 185 pounds, and that has helped him. Back in that first training camp, “it was real easy to knock me off the puck, now it’s a little bit harder,’’ he said.

While the added muscle has certainly helped his cause on the ice, his quick adaptation making the jump from junior the AHL in a short period of time is the biggest reason for his ascension up the depth chart.

“You can see where these guys, and I say it time and time again, when the game slows down for them, and I think it’s done that for Vlad, especially when I got to watch the playoffs,’’ Cooper said.
Quote:
“I just to need to play my game, get out there and play well in the defensive zone, take it into the offensive zone, try to prove that I can make the team,’’ Namestnikov said. “I think the coaches know how I play, and I just need to continue doing that, and hopefully if they like me I can make the jump to the next level.’’

Serious discussion... Connolly is playing his way on the squad, and I think Palat should be on the big squad too...

Is this making it more likely that Drouin goes back down after his 9 games?

Looks that way. Might not be the best thing for his level of competition in his development, but its not in his best interests for health to get crushed at the NHL level, especially when Palat-Panik-Johnson is basically a lock and Connolly looks this good.

So is it looking more like Connolly taking the 2nd line spot next to Filpulla and Purcell instead of Drouin now?

How was Drouin in the game? will he get his 9 games?

Where does Killorn go then? If you say on the first line then where does Malone go?

Adam Erne going back to QMJHL Quebec. Guess his 3-game suspension hastened that decision. Camp roster down to 58.

Lightning head coach Jon Cooper said Purcell is not expected to miss any significant time.

“He’s not feeling well,” Cooper said. “He showed up today and I don’t know if it was respiratory or I have no idea so maybe if it was a regular-season game who knows maybe he would play. So he went to go get checked out at the (doctor) and even before he comes back (from the doctor) I just wanted to put somebody else in.”

How is Kucherov looking so far, does he have a chance to make the big club this year, or he isn't ready yet?

I start to feel bad for Connolly, I mean look had his 2nd goal. It just seems like, OH NO, no I have to be happy. He just stands there and waits for the others to come to him and seems to ask himself why they are all smiling.

I am not sure wether he is just a person, that does allow a lot of feelingor if there is something other with him (some sort of trauma, that scares him away from showing any kind of feelings)

You didn't read his scouting report did you? Let me clarify.

Negatives: Possibly Injury prone. Half Vulcan.

It is really weird, he's the complete reverse of Ovechkin

Either of them be interchangeable between the 1st and 3rd lines, Connolly shouldn't be playing the 3rd line role, and doesn't bring the type of game that should be with Stamkos and St.louis.

Malone's physical presence works well on either line, as well as Killorn's high energy play.

"@BoltsJolts: STATPACK: 16 of 30 points given out to @TBLightning players this preseason have been scored by young guns. Nice balance. #TBLightning"

That's pretty solid. A lot of the young guys are completely ready. It's really a good problem to have but at least two guys that are NHL ready will be in the AHL to start the season. Hopefully it doesn't discourage them.

He's hasn't been in the spotlight with Erne and Connolly being the ones making noise, but I thought it was worth noting Filppula has 4 assists and a shootout goal in 2 games. Not bad to go along with the rest of the small stuff he does on the ice.

Before every game, Lightning prospect Ondrej Palat weighs his sticks, not on a scale but by feel, with his hands. ..."Every stick is a little bit different, so I'm trying to find out which one is better," the left wing said. "I try to feel how light it is, how to tape it, small things. If it feels good, you know right away."
Quote:
He is generally quiet — "He speaks when spoken to," teammate Eric Neilson said — and thinks defense first.
Quote:
"He's just silently gone about his business," coach Jon Cooper said before the Lightning's 4-3 victory over the Blues on Friday night at the Scottrade Center. "The one thing I love about Palat is that he doesn't cheat the game, ever. He plays the game the right way. You can't have enough guys like him."
Quote:
He also has a terrific nickname: Chuck Norris, after the martial arts television star.

"Because he really does everything," said center Tyler Johnson, who played with Palat in 2011-12 at Norfolk and last season at AHL Syracuse.

"You can count on him for anything. He's unbelievable."

A better description for Palat, 6 feet, 190 pounds, is versatile.

"You can put him on first line, fourth line, power play, penalty kill," Cooper said. "Maybe one day we'll throw some goalie pads on him and see if he can do it."

Cooper said Lightning, with 58 players in camp, will make significant cuts this weekend ahead of training camp move to Estero on Monday.

Maybe Palat's nickname should really then be 'Radko Gudas'.

For as much hype as Connolly has been getting for scoring goals, I think Palat has been the best overall player on the ice. He's always in the right position, he's fast as hell, makes good passes, takes good shots...He's impressed me tremendously...I didn't really get all of the fuss about him because I didn't watch too many Syracuse/Norfolk games.

I get it now.

Without a doubt correct. Palat is the real deal. Those are the players you want to go into battle with.
