That is one great contract for this hockey club.

If he would have waited for free agency and put up ~50 points this upcoming season he would have had offers for $5mill a year on the open market.

One thing is for sure, our forwards should be pretty much set for the foreseeable future once Schenn is tied up. Ofc this is the Flyers though, so maybe not!

Hopefully Schenn gets done for ~2-2.3 mill, and then we have 12 forwards for next year at ~33.5mill-34mill, with the year after that only Rosehill and Rinaldo not signed.

By comparison Pittsburgh have 32mill locked up in 5 forwards... all with NTC's, Boston 33.5mill on 7 forwards, all with NTC's, Edmonton 33million for 7 forwards.

Our forward core has good value for money, especially for its depth and quality.

Read deserves a lot of credit for accepting such a deal when he likely could've got much more on the open market.

I get ya, but its not like we can use the savings to buy a #1 D... None are available, and it doesn't look like any will be in the near future. We can't buy what we need with the money we saved, pretty frustrating.

You expect Schenn to take a pay cut?

He doesn't get all those bonus' in fact he doesn't get most of them. His real salary is only 900K. 2-2.5 million is a million to a million and a half raise

Great signing and even greater value. Read took considerably less than he could have gotten on the open market. Kudos to Holmgren for negotiating a great deal. The third line should be consistent for the next few years.

That is a great deal. Read is one of the most underrated players in the league imo.

Awesome news! Like others said, he definitely could have gotten way more on the open market. Matt Read is the ****ing man!

But I thought no one wanted to play for Homer, so he has to overpay?

great signing! stayed loyal to the team that gave him the first crack at the big time! he is one of those pieces that doesnt represent MASSIVE value in trade format to most teams, but is a key cog in a number or situations for us!
