I know what's not happening; you're not paying attention to the mans entire catalog of work.

I'm sure he understands it quite well.

There is no cap situation. They are, and will continue to be, just fine.

Honestly thought he would be traded, especially after the Cleary fiasco. Solid deal and good for the Flyers keeping him.

Good deal. Did not think he'd get resigned. @ less than 4m, very nice move for the Flyers

I read this a lot.

From people who don't really follow the team.

Good deal and the Flyers continue locking up one of the best cores of forwards in the league...however not sure where they are going to find their number one dman or goalie anytime soon.

This was an overpayment.....

In 2014 they will have $7M + whatever amount the cap goes up to sign Brayden Schenn, 2 goalies, 2 forwards, 2 Dmen

this will be fun to watch.....

how is this an overpayment for a guy that can play any forward position, both the PK and PP and will put up 50+ points?

It's not an overpayment just because you don't like the cap situation.

Anyway, $7.3m plus Prongers $5m on LTIR is $12.3m plus the rise in cap which could be another $5m so it could be $17ish.

Why do people always say the Flyers are in cap trouble?

Homer makes plenty of bizarre moves, but he also makes plenty of good ones. He's a tough GM to Read.

I'm a big fan of this deal. Matt Read is a super valuable player. The 4-year length is perfect for the Flyers. Well done, Homer! I honestly thought if he made it to free agency some team would give him 5 million/year, especially considering how rare it is for good young players to hit the open market.

Because they just look at the CapGeek total and assume. In actuality, the Flyers will be fine.

Great contract. Read took a pretty sizable discount. Easily could have gotten 4.5+ on the open market.

first off learn LTIR---you dont get all his salary and free to spend.

second----dont see the cap going up $5M in one year. Max would be about $3M.

Lets look at their contracts.......

under contract for 2014:

11 forwards
4 dmen
Pronger
0 goalies

cap space about $7M + Pronger LTIR (<$4.9M) + $3M if cap goes up

They need to sign Schenn + 2 forwards + 3 Dmen + 2 goalies......

have fun trying to do that. Say you have $14M to spend

Schenn say $4M
2 cheap forwards $1M each
2 cheap Dmen $1M each
1 more expensive Dman $4M
total=$12M

you still have to sign 2 goalies.....

Schenn won't be making 4 mil per on his next deal.

You must know something no one else does...

Say schenn takes a deal like Kadri which makes more sense given that he hasn't broken out yet like Kadri has and that puts him at $2.9.

As far as the forwards goes, they flyers now have some depth locked up and they don't need to sign Schenn plus 2 forwards. They need to sign Schenn and bring up a forward from the phantoms who is waiting to crack the roster.

Flyers will have options on D and goal because they will have cap space.

It's hysterical how other teams fans try to make a huge deal out of the flyers cap situation when they always find a way to get the job done and with ease. Seriously, who thought with Briere and Bryz being bought out they flyers would end up with Lecavalier, Streit and Emery. Paul Holmgren and Co. Are better and more experienced at cap management than you(not just talking about Djp)

First off, it's not "first off", it's "first of all".

Second off, Schenn would have to have a huge season to get $4m per and that's assuming they don't resign him early in the season like they usually do.

Third off, maybe you need to learn about LTIR considering you counted a guy who will be on it against the Flyers cap.

Fourth off, since when do 13th and 14th forwards and 7th dman make $1m each? They can all easily be found for $600-$700k.

Fifth off, you do know that there are ways to move salary right? Even if they decide they can't afford him (which they can) he's now much more valuable signed through his prime at a great cap hit.
