I think he is a decent prospect. Kind of a like a McIlrath, he gotta be given some time. And with a kid as raw as he is, you never know where he will end up. But I think odds are very good that he will become a very solid player. If he was in the CHL, undoubtedly he looks good and atleast comes to the AHL. NHL or not? That's of course a big questionmark so far. But you never know.

I believe he was playing regularly in the SEL at age 18. That alone means he's at least decent. What is he now 20? Stay in Sweden, get some good competition and coaching, heal up and see you in 3 years. Guys like that tend to develop into competent 3 zone players, Swedish D typically aren't specialists and have all around good games much like a Stralman or Oduya. I like this kid but admit to not seeing him, just a gut call.

The problem is that we'd have to use a roster spot on him. I don't see how he warrants a NHL deal. If he wants to take an AHL deal to prove himself, I have no problem with that.

Calle was back with Malmo, making his debut. He scored a goal and was +1.

LC- Yeah, and he is still only 19. Same age as Skjei.

He is doing well and looking like a good lower round pick. Compareable to say a Grachev.

Still along way to go though.

Jonathan- I think it remains to be seen if he gets an ELC. I think he needs to go in the wrong direction so to speak not to get one, he has done very well up until now. Tough to be injured 7 months, I don't even know what happened to him...

Really nice goal by Calle Andersson against Rögle (watch from 1:15)
http://www.malmoredhawks.com/Nyheter/130922-Highlights/

He joins the rush, beats the D wide and scores. Big game for Malmö against the local rivals Rögle infront of a full arena.

Very nice goal by Calle.

Seems like a lot of long ones were going in against the goalies though.

Eco- Yeah, they won 4-2 but lost the shots 35-15 or something like that.

Andreas Lilja and Nyls played for Rögle.

We need Calle to develop as planned, I have him slotted as the RH PMD of the future, can't disappoint me
Why was he transferred to Malmo essentially demoted to the 2nd division, anybody knows?

This is a desperation move - why would it appeal to Calle at this point after being drafted only a year ago?

Andersson went back to his home team.

The second tier league is a good development league for a 18 y/o. The SHL only has 12 clubs, and there are 4-6 teams in the 2nd tier league that holds decent top tier European level, and around ten that is a definite notch below that level but still keeps it together (like we saw when several NHLers played in that league during the lockout).

Andersson got a good shoot at playing a lot of minutes for Malmö. OEL, Filip Forsberg and a few others also played at that level at the same age the last years.

I think it's a very good option for Andersson. Get top minutes this year and a good shot at playing in the WJC. Next summer he can sign a NHL deal and be loaned to a SHL team for a year. And then play in the AHL in 15/16 when he is 21 y/o.

Had he stayed with Farjestad after rehabbing all summer and the first couple of weeks of the regular season, there must have been a risk for him not really getting in early in the year, and he would have been forced to wait for his turn so to speak. Farjestad got a good team, probably a step above any AHL team. Andersson is only 19, the SHL is a great option if you are ready but he is a bit of a late bloomer.

Because if he wants to be a NHL player, he'll accept such a deal. Why do we give a flying **** what appeals to him? As of right now, he's a waste of a roster spot. Period. His feelings are meaningless. I don't give a **** if he accepts an AHL deal or not since I don't care about losing his rights.

How is he comparable to Grachev who was outstanding as a lower round pick? That's a bit ludicrous to suggest, in all honesty. He's the complete opposite of Grachev, who looked like a steal before he hit a brick wall as a pro.

He needs to go in the wrong direction to get a contract? Really? That's the complete opposite of my view. He actually needs to develop and play well in the SEL to get a contract. We aren't going to give someone a deal who can't crack a SEL roster and who can barely crack an Allsvenskan roster. The injury sucks and I feel for the kid, but sometimes injuries like that decide whether someone gets a contract.

Honestly, I'd be surprised if he could crack the AHL next year. He'd likely be in the ECHL all year.

He cracked an SEL roster last season as an 18-year old, and hasn't had any problems cracking an Allsvenskan roster this season. What are you even talking about with the latter part? In another week or two he'll be back on Malmo's top pairing. He's developing fine, why are you so down on him?

I'm guessing he's talking about Anthony.

Corey Pronman ‏@coreypronman 1m

Duclair pulls the Peter Forsberg move off on a penalty shot. For sure would try to do that with old Mr. Roy staring him down.

Because he's not developing fine. I don't see NHL potential in an offensive d-man who can't put up points. Frankly, I think he's our most overrated prospect. We have done well on Swedes, but this one doesn't look like a home run (let alone a single) to me.

FWIW, I'm not usually wrong on these gut feeling type situations (this may be pure luck and I'd be the first to admit that, so please don't think I'm being arrogant or anything here). This is just one that never sat well with me even if I was content with the pick on draft day. I always thought he was a real long shot.

As of right now, I think he has a ton of work to do to earn a contract.

If they get that kid's head on straight, he can be a huge steal for us. I'm really curious to see what our staff can do with him at the next level.

He was over a point per game in Swedish junior hockey. So when was he failing to put up points? The 34 games he played in the SHL when he was 18 and getting six minutes per game? Oh man, what a ****ing bust.

And yes, he's a real long shot. You know as well as I do that most everyone drafted in the fourth round is a long shot.

Waste of time even discussing Andersson and a contract right now. Would the Rangers give him one if they had to by tonight? I don't think so. Luckily, though, they don't. We get an entire season to evaluate him, and although it is the 2nd division in Sweden it's still quality competition. I don't see William Nylander's stock falling. This will be a topic worth discussing around Christmas at the earliest. We'll have a better grasp on his ability and development at that point.
