Bourque didn't play bad. He had 3 good scoring chances in the crease and was stone-walled. The entire team was stone-walled by Khudobin.

Eller on the other hand played poorly. He was a turnover machine and took a penalty at a terrible time.

I have a lot of trouble believing that Murray/Bouillon are better right now, than Jarred Tinordi

Either way, you gotta love the prospects of our defense over the next few years

Tinordi-Subban
Emelin-Pateryn
Beaulieu-Nygren/Dietz

Dietz has been a pleasant surprise, Nygren I think will come around quickly once he gets a few games in the AHL

And to think we haven't even seen Beaulieu play, who I personally think is underrated among Habs fans, his ability to support the offense with his mobility will make him a very valuable player in the future.

Eventually Tinordi and Subban will be the backbone of this teams defence

I did as well. The knock on Bourque in the past was his lack of effort and consistency. Tonight he showed up and had multiple scoring chances and was good down low. Khudobin stopped him from having a good night.

Mccaron needs to work on his speed badly. Diaz I wish we could deal him.

Overall was a boring game and Briere will have a big role, he needs to be ready to score.
It's been written a few times that Bournival was asked to work on his skating, specifically his explosiveness, this summer - and by all accounts came into camp looking much better. He is not the same skater he was in Hamilton last year.

Bournival has always been an impressive skater. Admittedly I didn't see much of Hamilton last year, but when he was on Shawinigan he was flying around the ice nightly...

Does nobody (not you specifically) remember how awesome Bourque was last year?

Pretty much what Crimson Skorpion said about some people just have a hate on for certain players and can't acknowledge when they do well.

people are hating because he didn't finish, but he played great to get in position and was hitting everything. He's going to have a good year me thinks.

In Bourque's defense (besides this being a meaningless game for vets), he was NEVER a strong minutes player, the only above average skill he has is his shooting. He was a 27 goal scorer...as an exploitation scorer. One of a legion of reasons him and Pacioretty should be switched.

Bourque is still playing physical though, which is really what we need.

Bourque was better last year than he was in his first 38 games with the club. That's it. There was no "awesome", and it was 27 games.

Re-watching the first period right now. We won't see Jarred in a Bulldogs uniform again.

Tinordi-Subban is going to be one hell of a defense pairing.

Tinordi is ahead of Bouillon & Murray the issue is that we want him to be a big part of our futur and getting 1st pairing minute +all the PK in the AHL might be better for him than being 6 or 7th in the NHL.

I it just me or Diaz just hasn't been the same since is concussion, I was a big supporter when he started but he just doesn't seem have the same confidance his puck handling, pass and shooting seem off and I haven't seen any improvement in preseason...

Positives:

Bournival: Woww, is this guy doping ? Compared to last year, Bournival is a completely transformed man. So far, in this pre-season, he's our best player. He looks very fast, opportunist, and very involved.

Tinordi: Bergevin and Therrien are having a tough decision to make.

St-Pierre: his style is similar to Desharnais. Given time and good opportunity, he may be as good as Desharnais. I may under-value Desharnais a bit.

Negatives:
McCarron, Collberg and Thomas haven't impressed me at all. I think that they are at least 2 years away to become a good NHLer.

Eller: I understand this is pre-season...but watching him in his 2 games, he looks like Kostitsyn, Zubrus or Afinogenov....in the sense that he has decent talents at all aspects, but somehow can't put all together. Maybe he lacks hockey IQ ? I don't know what exactly he's lacking, but I'm afraid that he can't turn to excellent player. Once again, this is just pre-season, I may be scared for nothing.

You people are overreacting with Eller, he made some nice plays out there and kept his game simple. Played solid defensively, he did take some bad penalties though.
