Last I knew is the organization did not offer him a contract and he was draft eligible for 2013.

Correct, he's no longer Flyer property. I remember seeing that Suellentrop got invited to a pro rookie camp, but I can't remember which team.

I did a quick search and he was linked with Montreal. I'm not sure if that is current, however.

According to Tim P.: Chris VandeVelde was signed to minor league deal.

Good to hear it isn't taking up a NHL contract. I thought there was already a log jam with the Phantoms, but if he was good enough to play 11 NHL games last year he should be a boost for the Phantoms.

Add Doug Clarkson. He also signed with the Phantoms.

Phantoms also signed Doug Clarkson, according to their site.

I'm so very sorry for Phantoms fans. His only claim to fame is that he's Dave's brother and he's big. Unfortunately, he's really bad at hockey.

It could very well be Greenville fans that get the delight of having him around. I can't see him cracking the Phantoms as deep as they are going to be this year.

Clarkson played for the Titans last season. Nothing special in terms of hockey play. He's big, and he can throw punches...when he wants to. I wouldn't expect an impact.

UPDATED: Phantoms play a secret game

Now, down to the game.

It was Phantoms players and coaches, including Yann Danis, who was on waivers at the time and cleared on Friday but has not been assigned to the Phantoms, wearing Flyers jerseys. Ben Holmstrom and Kris Newbury, who were in the same position waiver-wise, did not play.

The Phantoms won 4-2, over a Devils team that certainly had its number last season.

Adirondack scored in spurts - two goals in the first 7:03 and then another two in 1:21 in the third period.

"The first 15 minutes was good stuff," Murray said. "There was a lot of energy. Things got away from us in the middle but we came back and got it together again."

Those were two things the Phantoms struggled with last season - starting strong and coming back, so that's a good sign even if it is early.

Nick Cousins scored unassisted to get the Phantoms started. Mark Alt then scored on a power play, assisted by Brandon Manning, to give them a 2-0 lead.

Taylor Leier had 4 points (4 assists) over the weekend in Portland's two games.

Then we have a defense with Alt who has looked great this preseason (he will get a few games with the Flyers this season), Manning who looks better than he did last season, The Dane, etc etc and this could be a really good team.

Heeter also played well in the preseason and had a pretty good first pro year, add to that an all-star goalie in Danis and an ahl vet who can really pile up the points in Newbury.

Doubtful, maybe some games as a call-up if someone gets hurt & he plays well in the AHL to pass other guys in the call-up list.

McGinn, Akeson, & Noebels are all ahead of him on the call-up list IMO.

I think he meant 14-15 by next season. The 13-14 season starts in a little over a week so while "next season" technically means sometime in 13-14 season I assume he means the following season. But that's really based on nothing other then a feeling.

Who gets the call first this season all depends on the spot that needs filling IMO. If it's a checking role I think McGinn and Noebels are best suited while Akeson and Cousins are better suited for the more offensive roles (though I think Cousins will make an excellent 3rd liner in the near future).

Oh I would agree he'll have a better shot then in 2014-2015. I still don't know if he'll make it but we'll see how the roster shakes out by then.

I don't know how you can definitively say those guys are ahead of him on the depth chart when none of them are centers.

It's pretty simple I doubt Cousins plays center at the next level, I don't care if he played a few games there during preseason with a split squad neither.

Oh really?

Because until he plays the wing he's a center. Since the day he was drafted everyone said he was going to be a winger. He might one day have to move but he dominated juniors as a center. He is a center. People around here really don't understand the value of having center depth and overlook the transition from center to wing. And it's not like the Phantoms have a glut of center prospects either. Let the kid play first.

Don't know how bad it means but Phantoms lost to a college team 4-2. Raffl looked really good with 2 goals.

Utica Comets are the Official AHL Affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks.

Utica Pioneers are the College team.
