And as @jprutherford says, it's $1.5 million on the one-year deal for Morrow. Bargain for the Blues for that caliber of player

Welcome on the board, St.Louis. Now you should know that feeling when this guy is blocking a spot for younger and more talented players. His body is broken..

And what caliber would that be?

Probably a good reason why no one touched him until a week before the season started.

I hope for the Blues' sake he's stapled to the 4th line.

They earned a full time job based on last years playoffs but it sounds like at least one of them, possibly both took it for granted that they were in the NHL coming into camp. The Sobotka incident really PO'd Hitch and Army and that just added to the whole thing.

Fine with it, I guess, assuming no ice time is taken away from younger/better players.

I like the idea of bringing another veteran to the locker room, but still hate this signing. He better be a healthy scratch for most of the year, because lord knows I don't want him playing over any of the guys currently in the lineup. Our Craknell-Porter-Reaves line in the playoffs was one of the most effective 4th lines I've ever seen, and now it looks like none of those guys will get regular playing time.

I think Gagne is a better player than Morrow at this point. He can still skate. But he's still unsigned.

The question is who had a terrible camp to make this move happen?

He's not physical though.

Therein lies the problem. Hitch loves his veterans to a fault. I would not be surprised to see Morrow get significant minutes. Which is a terrible idea.

He played Schwartz on the top line in the playoffs. The young players just have to prove themselves.

He'll be on the 4th line.
How is he "blocking a spot" from the 4th line?

Morrow will play the exact same role that Langenbrunner did. 4th line fill in for injuries, maybe some PK work; pep talk guy in the lockerroom.

OK move if he doesn't play a lot. Brutal move if he does.

But at the same time that's a lot of money to pay a guy just to play on the fourth line.

Nice talking point, but falls apart in front of actual facts.
Arnott and Langenbrunner were the 9th and 10 forwards in terms of ATOI, both averaging around 14:30 a game with almost 2 minutes of that coming from Special Teams play.

Morrow will not get treated any differently than Langenbrunner and Arnott were.

Well, thatīs the better case, but there is still a possibility of him playing higher than 4th line. You never know. We learned a lesson with him in Pittsburgh and he certainly was blocking some guys..

As for St.Louis, I was thinking about the guys like Reaves or Cracknell..

And no, Morrow is not a very good PKer, he doesnīt play a lot in that role.. Few seconds, maybe.

He can possibly play some hockey until he tries to be a bit physical and breaks his body again. Thatīs the most likely scenario, IMO. Hopefully he proves me wrong.

It's similar to Sobotka and Lapierre. He get some time of the 3rd line, but not extensive.

It's right around what Sobotka and Lapierre make. With Petro signed why are we complaining about spending to the cap after YEARS of a payroll slightly above the floor?

Can a blues fan give me some sort of expected line combination? Obviously nothings set it stone but just an idea where some guys may fit.

Steen-Backes-Oshie
Schwartz-Roy-Stewart
Paajarvi-Berglund-Tarasenko
Sobotka-Lapierre-Morrow

Reaves, Porter, Cracknell

Cracknell will most likely be sent to the minors. The top 9 is what will happen and the 4th line is my guess.

That's the same thing Wings fans say about Babcock and Cleary.

14 minutes a night is way too much at this point for Morrow. Why bring him in for 1.5 mil to play on the fourth line when Porter is a wrecking ball on that line for almost a million less?
