Wow, Kyle Beach. Used to be high on him. How bad does he look now? What went wrong in his development?

had a reputation for being a headcase a few years back which was a bit hard to shake, didn't get off to a great start in the AHL (offensively or defensively), has struggled with injuries (including multiple concussions), fell down the depth chart of a team that has very good prospects.

i think it is possible he can be a productive NHL player. just not with Chicago.

He was never that good of a prospect to begin with.

Exactly. He was overblown thinking he would be the next Lucic. He had the size and that's about it. A fighter and a power forward with a concussion problem not going to be good at either.

Nothing really went wrong with development

Simple reality is that Beach doesn't have much talent

Just another Dale Tallon draft day blunder

If only my ex GM had blunders such as Keith, Seabrook, Toews, Bolland, and Kane. You spoiled, spoiled fans.

You'll probably want to double check most of those.

OFFICIAL SCORECARD

Dale Tallon (GM, 2005-2009) draft picks:
- Toews (2006 1st round, 3rd overall)
- Kane (2007 1st round, 1st overall)

Bob Pulford (GM, 1977-90, 1992-97, 1999-00, 2003-05) draft picks:
- Dave Bolland (2004, 2nd round, 32nd overall)
- Brent Seabrook(2003, 1st round, 14th overall)

Mike Smith (GM, 2000-03) draft picks:
- Duncan Keith (2002 2nd round, 54th overall)

... Tallon's drafts, outside of "sure-thing" picks in Toews & Kane, sucked. Tallon sucks at drafting.
2005: Skille in the 1st rounder (Hjalmarsson in the 4th)
2006: nobody outside of the Toews "no-brainer" pick.
2007: nobody outside of the Kane "no-brainer" pick.
2008: Kyle Beach in the 1st, nobody else of value in any other round, either.
2009: Dylan Olsen in the 1st (Krueger in the 5th round)

Ironically if you go back to 2007 post-draft "winners and losers" threads, the Hawks were declared slam dunk winners because of all the sexy prospects they "stole" like Sweatt, Aliu, Tanguay and Unice. 10 NHL games to date between them so far.

Dale Tallon was the assistant GM under Pulford and RESPONSIBLE for the draft. This has been proven numerous times. People just choose to ignore it.

kane and Toews are slam dunks now. At the time there was a great deal of speculation about who the Hawks might pick..

I was just about to post that I thought this was coming today.

Omark has looked pretty awful in preseason: taking penalties, being behind the play, giving the puck away. He might get a chance with another team, but if they've been watching him: he's AHL bound.

I am not sure if that's true. Those two guys were slam dunks as it gets. Everyone knew about Toews success at Wr Juniors and Kane was destroying OHL

There were no speculations on who they were going to pick.

Actually there was a lot of speculation about Kane because many believed Turris would be the superior player and some (Including Gare Joyce, for instance) were slightly surprised when word spread that Kane was their guy.

Toews great performance at the world juniors was AFTER the Hawks picked him actually.

Many wanted Kessel or Backstrom rather than Toews. How smart were the two teams picking before Chicago if Toews was such a sure thing...

Also, as noted in 'Future Greats and Heartbreaks' there were question marks about Toews in his draft year, too. The Blue Jackets noted two: he had concussion issues (two in one season, IIRC) and he had a perceived lack of finishing ability. A lot of people had him ranked behind Erik Johnson, Jordan Staal, Phil Kessel and Nicklas Backstrom.
