He should probably get an extension of his current cap hit.

That would be a hell of a deal but I just checked and his cap was only 4.5. Not getting my hopes up on that one.

I think it depends on how he plays this season. If he puts up 65-70 points then another contract around what he is making now sounds fair. Maybe a little bit of a raise to say $5.5 million a season.

Clarkson just got 5.2, Pominville has a much better track record and is a better player. He's going to get 6 +.

Whatever it is, it better be short term. The guy doesn't have many good years left.

5.5-6.0 would be fair. So if he hits the UFA market, he probably signs somewhere for around 6.7.

Anything below 6M for 3-4 years would be perfect.

Probably won't happen, though.

If he stays healthy this year and gets his 60/75 points, even 30 goals, it'll be a big payday. We are talking close to $7 million if he hits free agent status, easily into the $6.5 million plus.

Based on injury history, if Minny makes a decent offer he might sign early. Only reason to is injury risk.

>6m with the current market for UFA's. I mean, Clowe for nearly 5, Clarkson for 5.2. He's a superior player to both. And unless he really, really likes Minnesota, there will be a bidding war.

I think if he sticks in Minnesota it will be for around 5.5M per for ~7 years. On the open market the price starts at 7 years 6M per.

Aside from the fact he is a center, it seems Joe Pavelski's 5 yr. 6m per should be a very close comparable. If either hit the market, I would see them approaching 7m.

Russo hinted that its pretty much done a bit back, Fletcher just wants to see him play in a few games first to ensure he is over his concussion issues.

He will test the free agent market and end up back in Buffalo.

From everything I've heard, it sounds like the deal is already pretty much done and the only reason there was some speculation was b/c of Pommers health after that concussion. So I would assume that in the next week someone will pop up about his extension.
