Can't remember the last time a Habs GM was so accessible, and gave, what seem to be, honest answers. As habs fans, we gotta love it!

I hope Bergevin has a plan, a real plan. I'd love to be wrong about him... But I've been burned before.

MB is just mixing expressions using both languages and the results can be quite funny. I don't blame the guy, he's been away from his first language since he's 19 basically.

'Faut que t'aie un balant' (you need balance)

He probably meant 'short change' as well and mixed it up.

Well he seems to be building through the draft, he has kept his word. I don't think anything he's done so far has put in harm his long term plan.

My only beef is that he promised to make the team bigger which he has with Murray and Parros, but at the same time he re-upped Bouillon and Desharnais.

But with the 'needs' that was drafted last June, it signals that he indeed wants a bigger team long term and that filling the roster with goons is not the strategy (even short term).

I also dislike the resignings but making the team bigger this offseason without overpaying was impossible. He's definitely focused on making it bigger in the future though.

It's tough to speak French well when you're negatively influenced by Ron Fournier's absolutely terrible French.

Not sure if you guys realized it, but when asked if he was close to have "his" team, he said no. Expect at least 3-4 more years before he makes a key player trade or even signs a really good UFA, because that's when our window will open.

I'm glad MB is our GM

We are still a few years ago from being contender but he's a man with a vision.

Lets not kid ourselves, Bergevin's french is terrible. He has the accent down, but the rest is typical of someone who'se originally french but has been speaking english his whole life

Ron Fournier is the worst interviewer ever. Very rude, way too familiar, speaks poorly, and interrupts CONSTANTLY.

This is the longest I've listened to him and hopefully I'll never have to again. Yikes.

While I agree that Ron Fournier is certainly failing in the Standards of Interviewing, he's a.. loose cannon that will make you see something different about his guest than Ye Standardized Interviewer.

Actually, ballant is a word and was used correctly.
http://www.larousse.fr/dictionnaires...q=ballant#7638

Yes balance would ve been better but ballant was properly used.

+1 Pierre Gauthier made severals good moves in his last two years as GM but, in terms of working and building a contender team; pass. That's what I like from his management. He made some mistakes but nothing that will put us behind as a contender.

If he were interviewing me, I'd tell him to shut up so I can get a word in edgewise.

And what's up with the compression of the audio on his show. One minute the sound is loud and the next, it's barely a whisper.

MB is being very smart. Patient, quiet yet accessible. Last year isnt enough to properly know where this team is. This year and next will be important in deciding his next steps.

His build through the draft approach is pretty much guaranteed to be positive with TT at the helm. Were starting to get a very full cupboard of high end prospects with a wide range of skills, while remaining competitive.

MB has given me no reason to doubt him.

Exactly, already now, we have too many defensemen, all the young guys are knocking at the door, it'S a great position to be in.

I liked some of the info that was revealed during the interview.

For instance, how highly he talked about Dietz. How he finds Collberg isn't ready and that he himself knows he isn't. That he speaks to all of the GMs roughly every couple of weeks. And most importantly that he doesn't wait until his team is in need to make a trade. Therefore, there could be another trade that could happen while the team is doing well. Who knows? But it's nice to know that he doesn't wait until there is a need to try to make something happen.

I wouldn't say that.
  • Murray had a groin injury and those tend to reoccur multiple times during a season.
  • Bouillon also was injured.
  • Drewiske is out for 4 weeks.
  • Emelin is out until December.
  • Beaulieu has a shoulder injury.

And Bergevin himself stated that you can never have too many d-men. It wouldn't surprise me if the Habs would get a depth D-man still! Somebody with a 700k 1-year contract.

I meant in the system, when the hardest decision for MT and MB right now is what to do with Tinordi because he's too good to not be in the NHL, I think we're in a good situation, injuries asside.

BUt yeah, you can never have too many defensemen.

Why are we a few years away from being a contender?
We finished first last year, granted, I don't think we're a top seed team, but we're not a mediocre one with lots of help needed.
We need someone bigger to replace Briere on the top 6, and we need a bigger more physical version of Gorges.
We have very solid depth, and we have enough draft picks and prospects to dangle a package worthy enough to land us there players.

I wouldn't go as far as to say we can contend for the cup this year, but that's mainly because we're relying on youngsters and they're unproven.
But if Eller-Galla-Gally-Tinordi can perform well and keep improving, then I don't see why we wouldn't be able to compete with any team in the East.
There are a lot of good teams, but we're certainly amongst them.

Who are the high end prospects??
Our high end guys aside from Galchenyuk were here before MB. McCarron and Colberg? They're too far away to be labeled as high end.
