Katie Carrera ‏@kcarrera 3m #Caps have placed D Tomas Kundratek on waivers this morning. If he clears tomorrow he will report to Hershey.

I'd be surprised if he clears. His cap hit is only $550k, will still be an RFA when his current deal expires, and he's proven he can be a 6/7 in the NHL. Teams that need cheap blue line depth could do a lot worse.

Jonathon Blum just cleared and meets just about every one of those descriptions ($650K cap hit vs. $550K).

per Mike Russo, all 6 Minnesota players on waivers cleared and have been assigned to AHL (Landry, Kampfer, Blum, Connelly, McMillan, Veilleux and Rau).

I will be shocked if he is not claimed.

He was very good last year for the Caps before he got hurt.

Every year we hear this over and over again only to see said player go unclaimed. Teams won't claim unless it fills a specific need or an opportunity too good to pass up comes along

Especially in these first waves of waivers.

If Kundratek were to be waived middle of the season due to a numbers game, I'm positive he'd be picked up.
But right now, I won't be surprised if he isn't. Teams are still trying to figure out their rosters giving youth chances.

Exactly. Calgary waived Mark Cundari, a solid prospect in the Giordano mould that Flames fans were nervous over losing, and he was never claimed.

I've seen mixed speculation on both Jones and Kundratek.

One beat writer (I forget who) figures Kundratek will easily be claimed, I kind of doubt it because just about every team in the league has a player like Kundratek. If he were to be waived in a month, I'd venture he might get claimed, though.

Jim Matheson believes it's 75/25 that Ryan Jones is claimed, others believe he's destined for the AHL.

yet, Marc Andre Cliche gets waived by the Kings and you hear crickets on the boards, and voila, he gets claimed by the Avs.

armchair GMs take note... we just don't know, do we

Haha I was just thinking that.
I wonder if Colorado is regretting jumping on Cliche instead of taking a gamble on who else would be waived

OR

its probably not as straight forward as we tend to see it from home haha

I think there's frequently some kind of back-room deal with these claims.

Cliche... who has all of 1 NHL game under his belt, and is on a one-way contract... gets claimed ahead of all these other guys? Why? What for? Is that not a tremendous favor the Aves are doing for the Kings... there must be some kind of compensation there.

I wanted the Blues to claim him just for irony, but there's not as much risk of teams claiming guys at this time of year as most of HF likes to think.

Probably because Colorado was in the market for a fourth-line center and Roy knows Cliche from the 'Q'. If John Mitchell is dealt, Cliche will take over as the No. 4 C.

The Avs have a lot of offensive forwards and few good defensive forwards. Cliche is known as a good defensive forward with limited offense. Seems like a decent fit.

Matheson used to be the guy here in Edmonchuk. Now he is your aging parent that you bought an iPad for and have regretted it every day since.

he was the captain of the monarchs and did a great job with all the kids there the last couple of years, kings were not paying someone to take him off our hands........he is a decent prospect, but was never going to play center fot LA , just too much depth at center, happy for him and hopes he plays well for them
