Just like that Henrik Lundqvist! Sooooo one dimensional. All he does is stop pucks. Awful
Haha this is probably the best response I've seen to the one-dimensional idiocy. Lol

Who cares if isn't a top PK player. He's putting up more points and goals than almost the entire league, save for like 5 guys. That's pretty damn good.

6yrs/42mil

Do not think Kessel is worth 8mil..

Would someone pay him 8mil on the open market?? Sure

As a Sens fan i like it either way, Kessel is good for sure - and oddly even though he's always good against the Sens i dont fear him.
So i like it if they lose him because he just wants to play in a quieter market and i dont mind if they tie up 8 million a year for the next 8 years either.

The only ones one-dimensional are the ones that think Kessel isn't worth it. That dimension is that they don't know jack! This isn't the same Phil Kessel from 3 years ago, watch the team before you criticize.

The Leafs are lucky to have one of the purest scoring talents in the league and be able to lock him up at such a young age. 8 mill a year for a PPG, 30 G+ winger with no injury problems and a low maintenance attitude? Money well spent.

Yup, I don't get the "one-dimensional" BS. Maybe in his Boston days, but everyone can see that this kid jets back up the ice constantly backchecking and even mixing it up occasionally. He is better than average defensively purely based on his speed, tenacity and superior stick skills. Obviously he's not exceptional in the way that a Bergeron is but he IS exceptional offensively moreso than maybe a handful of players. I'll take an exceptional offensive output with an above average defensive capacity any day of the week. Pay him whatever he wants.

Kessel has the Leafs in a tight spot. Our potent offense takes a big hit without him plus there is the psychological effect of him walking away after what was invested in him.
I know they won't do it, but if him and Phaneuf took 8 year deals at 7 and 5.5 respectively, we'd be able to ice a contender in 2-3 years.

He is absolutely not better than average defensively. However, he's not being payed for his awesome 2-way performance. He's an elite goal scorer and he'll get paid to score those goals.

Semin is closer to Kessel than you all think.

Let's put it this way is praise on the same level as kessel to you? Well semin is better than parise.

Kessel is and should get paid. I'm expecting 7.8 x 8

Or not?

The 25-year-old, who becomes an unrestricted free agent next summer, added that there was nothing going on regarding talks for a contract extension. With one week to go until the start of the regular season, Kessel has already said he would prefer not to negotiate during the season.

"I'm not really worried about it," Kessel said. "Nothing's happening and we move on."

Wouldn't surprise me if Kessel hits the market to be honest.

8m for Phil Kessel? Wtf?

One dimensional wingers who have won nothing and can't carry a team should not be paid 8x8. Period.
The current market would suggest otherwise, especially when the cap increases substantially next season.

Just found it. Seems to me like Kessel doesn't want things turning into a Nazem Kadri fiasco to me. I think I'll take Friedman's word on it. Pretty credible compared to a quote from Kessel who's just awkward

1. Stephen Brunt
2. Elliotte Friedman
...
The rest.

I trust Friedman and his sources.

Did I read these posts right? Kessel isn't a credible source on Kessel's contract negotiation status?
