people really shouldn't feel the need to make a personal assessment in regards to a player.
couldn't we just keep it on topic as it pertains to hockey?

what does someone's (yours in this instance) personal OPINION of a player really have to do with anything?

I feel bad for the guy.
I thought he was going to have a bounce back year and perhaps challenge for 20 goals.
from his play in the preseason, it appears I was very wrong.

He's popular in the lockerroom and does stuff for the community. If he rubbed a few golden bears the wrong way I am not going to say that makes him an *******.

Not easy to replace a guy who can score 18 goals on the 3rd line.
I will miss jonesy. But, like Malhortra, one unfortunate deflection of a puck into the eye can ruin a player's game.
Sucks.

http://www.capgeek.com/new-cba/, under Buried Contacts (Wade Redden Rule)
In the section before buried contracts in your link it shows the league minimum. This year it is $550,000 making the magic number $925,000 before it starts to count towards your cap.

MINIMUM NHL SALARY

2012-13: $525,000
2013-14: $550,000
2014-15: $550,000
2015-16: $575,000
2016-17: $575,000
2017-18: $650,000
2018-19: $650,000
2019-20: $700,000
2020-21: $700,000
2021-22: $750,000

Assuming he doesn't get claimed... There's a very real chance somebody takes a flyer on him IMO.

Hope he passes through waivers I doubt it though, gotta feel for the guy as he really wanted to prove to people that he can still be a good hockey player, good teammate as well. Best of luck to him either way

On a side note, it says a lot about social media when a player feels the need to delete a twitter account because of the inevitable haters after a move like this.
Yup. So frustrating.

Mac I disagree with you on. He isn't a high minute player, but he does fill a role here that no one else does. If guys are getting chippy with our kids you send him out so a guy like Eager/Brown can get chippy right back and not worry about getting pounded by a heavyweight.
Wait exactly how does this save us salary? If he goes unclaimed we pay for him anyways do we not? One way contract, plus Hamilton is a two way contract so if he got send down, he wouldn't cost us anything? Now we just gained another contract on the salary cap as far as I can see.

Rough go for him.

Seems like a good guy, but the NHL is a business and he had to go.

I think theres an amount we can bury in the minors.. like 950k? So 550k would still count towards the cap or something

Jones got more playing time and chances here than anywhere else in his career.

Hopefully, he'll make his way back to the NHL.

He was always one of my favorites, and I hope he can make it down to OKC and work on his game, come back up, and play in our bottom 6 again.

You gotta wonder how Katz feels about MacT throwing 1.5 million of his dollars away on this signing.

Probably better than us not signing him only to find out for 1.5mil the guy is what we needed. Low risk signing that had to be done. You can just pass on guys that had two good seasons and then had a bad lockout year with an injury. Not at 1.5mil anyway.

Jones was never all that good. He saw more ice time on the Oilers than he would have seen on good clubs. His years on the Oilers were predicated on cherry picking, breakaway goals and the occasional "Oops, the puck bounced off me" goal.

Good guy and he was a fan favorite during some dark times but he's a fringe NHLer and we should be striving for more at this juncture.

I hope that cutting Ryan Jones was not a salary cap issue, I think it is a move that proves that the Oilers aren't the worst team in the league anymore and Jones isn't good enough to play on it anymore.

And I don't need the reminder that a large percentage of hockey fans are knuckle dragging inbreds.

Good luck to Jonesy, he's one heck of a person.
