I told a good friend this morning to not bother watching season 7 or 8. He's loved the show too and is up to season 6. He looked up the synopsis and the ending anf then thanked me for saving him over 20 hours.

I personally didnt find the previous Dexter seasons as bad or unwatchable as Bruce Wayne has felt but I did see a noticeable drop after season 4. Probably just difficult to live up to the amazing Trinity season but it was still worth watching for me. I think that the terrible writing is really what brought down the show and in turn started to make Michael C Hall even look bad. All in all, I think many people involved in this show were phoning it in for a few seasons now.
Dexter Season 6 was unconscionable. But I kinda liked season 7, at least the stuff with the gay hitman, thought it was a bit of a rebound season. But I tapped out of this year about 2-3 episodes in...and from the sound of it, dodged a bullet.

I'm blanking on the gay hitman but once I got through season 7 there was no way I wasn't going to see how the whole series wrapped up. Now I kindve wished I had found a way

I don't get why people universally hated the ending of Dexter...because it was unrealistic? That's what most TV is lol. Just like it's unrealistic Harrison Ford survives the 5000-foot fall into the water during the Fugitive.
Spoil:
Dexter could have faked his death any number of ways, the fact they had him do it with his boat was more symbolic than anything else since the boat was part of his kill routine. In some ways him being in self-imposed exile is more of a punishment than actually dying

I'm pretty sure it was more of the culmination of a crappy "ending". By ending most people mean the last season, not literally the last scene... Which I disliked as well. It was just cheesy.

Spoil:

-Dexter rolling his dead sister out of the hospital without being approached was rediculous. (A storm coming is no excuse).
-Dexter dumping his sister overboard like he did to so many serial killers he killed made no sense.
-Hannah walking around town like she wasn't one of the worlds most wanted fugitives was rediculous.
-Dexter allowing his son to see Hannah and walk around town going "Hi Hannah!" was mind numbing.

There are so many more but that's all I feel like typing. Force feed obvious storyline that somehow felt so unnatural to what the first years of the show got the viewer used to.

The frustrating thing about Dexter is it started out so good, and has fallen so far. Sure, some shows have a drop-off, but nothing like the way the quality plummeted on this show.

Spoil:
Dexter abandoning his kid pissed me off more than anything. Even as a serial killer, you could view Dexter as a sympathetic character all along, but that decision, at least to me as a parent, obliterated any positive feelings.

Lets see how our opinions match up

Loved HIMYM... But I always do.
Agents of Shield was ok for me. Didnt expect much but I hope the show doesn't use the "monster of the week" type mentality of early Smallville and Arrow.
Brooklyn Nine Nine... The commercials looked horrific so I didnt even try. I dvr'd the show before it, "Dads" because of Seth Green and Giovani Ribisi but it was horrible. Got 5 minutes in and am deleted it.
I liked World War Z a lot. Went in with very low expectations because if all the negatives I heard regarding the changes from the book but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
