Quenneville said a decision has not yet been made for when final cuts will take place, but did reiterate that the team is likely to carry eight defensemen to start the season. The coach said previously the plan is for a 23-man roster to begin the 2013-14 campaign.

Is anyone else thinking we are going to see some crazy lines when Hossa is out? More than usual Q?

We've got a glut of NHL ready wing prospects and we'll carry two extra D.

The more rotation for Rosy the better. Don't wanna see him in more than 45 games...keep that man fresh.

He'll play at least 60 barring injury.

That'd be a huge mistake at his age.

8 d-men eh? Plus 2 goalies. Plus 10 forward certainties (29/19/88/10/26/81/20/65/16/52) = 20, leaving 3 roster spots for Smith, Hayes, Morin, Pirri and Nordstrom. Of that bunch, Smith is probably in - so that leaves 2 spots for the other 4 guys.

Plus - who is the 8th d-man - Stanton or Kostka?

Stanton earned this, no reason to sit a guy like Jayes or Morin for every game.

Sounds like Pirri has no future with Q. Q loves Defensive guys, Pirri just isn't that. Nordstrom is going to make the roster over Pirri for that fact.

and for the guys wondering why there is so much talk about trade him... it's because we want to see him finally getting a fair chance

I love Pirri. Have for awhile. Getting a chance has nothing to do with wanting him traded and everything to do with getting a piece back that can help us.

Package him for a solid two-way third line center who is only slightly misused in our top six.

Yeah - wow!

Yeah, I like that 3rd line of Bickell-Shaw-Saad:

TT-Toews-Kane
Sharp-Pirri-Hossa
Bickell-Shaw-Saad
Danault-Kruger-Nirdstrom

From what I've read, it seems like Hayes is also probably in. From Mark Lazerus' twitter, it sounds like Nordstrom might get the third spot, with Morin/Pirri being the odd men out.

the practice lines today:

Chris Kuc ‏@ChrisKuc 4h
#Blackhawks lines at practice. Remember, no Hossa: Bickell-Toews-Kane, Sharp-Handzus-Hayes, Saad-Shaw-Smith, Bollig-Kruger-Nordstrom

Smith is an absolute lock at this point. Jayes too more than likely. I'd prefer to see Morin over Nordstrom, but it's hard to argue with how Nordstrom has looked.

I cannot fathom how anyone can believe Zeus centering the 2nd line is a good idea.

Maybe I am alone on this but I don't think Hayes has stood out to me. In preseason or any time before when he played for the Hawks last year. I don't understand the infatuation.

It is not a good idea. However, because Q has won two cups for us, apparently he is beyond reproach.

Smith is lock due to the fact he would have to clear waivers in order to be sent down to Rockford.

Interesting to see who makes the roster. Still think this is going to be a year long try out for all the young guys - 82 game season, injuries, slumps, etc.

I think all the forwards mentioned will get a chance this year. It's important to make the opening night roster, but I'm really interested who will be the rookies in the top 12 come playoffs.

I really like Brandon Pirri. But injury or not, if he can't make the roster over Handzus and Kruger (both had contracts renewed this year), it shows me where the organization stands on him. That's not saying he's not an NHL player, but it tells me he might not be guy for role available on this team. The ball is in Brandon's court though. He'll get his chance this year and I hope he takes advantage.

Line rushes today are Bickell-Toews-Kane, Sharp-Handzus-Hossa, Saad-Shaw-Smith, Bollig-Kruger-Nordstrom, Morin-Pirri-Hayes

I'm a bit surprised they'd put Bollig on the 4th line rather than Hayes.

It really appears Morin will again be Rockford bound

That sucks ,,, He is ready for role and has looked good all preseason

Looking more and more like Nordstrom is going to make the team. Was paired with Kruger again today on top PK unit.

So, Smith has made it...so has Nordstrom. I'm guessing Hayes will stay b/c Bollig's not playing every game. Then that's Morin and Pirri back to Rockford?

For defense, from the stuff I've seen (on twitter) it sounds like Kostka has the inside track over Stanton.

The carrying 8 dmen likely means Hayes is Rockford bound as well IMO

The carrying 8 defensemen decision makes me think there is something going on with Rozsival.

Good point. I'd forgotten about that.

Mark Lazerus said that last year, Morin, Pirri, Hayes, and Stanton were all roommates. Hopefully they kept up their rent payments
