That is the only sane way out of that mess, and its carry over to the current roster.
They let him stay on this roster for a reason. The Rangers kept him to see if there was any gas left in the tank and it would be a total waste to keep him in the press box.

For the Rangers, barring injury, it makes total sense. He's basically signed to a 1 year deal. If he plays like he did in 11-12, he will get a deal from somebody else, which would at least be decent. If he does suck, which could legitimately happen, then they will keep him for probably 25 games and then demote him to Hartford to get $925,000 back. THEN, and only then would I not let him play hockey I order to keep him from injury.

Yeah I agree with you. If you loo at our lineup there is no "real" tough guy on our team. I know the game has evolved to move away from the players for the most part, but we are missing that energy player that Prust was.

what i'd like

Hagelin-Stepan-Nash
Poulliet-Brassard-Zucc
Kreider-Miller-Callahan
Boyle-Moore-Dorsett
Mashinter, Pyatt as extras

of course Richards is sucking things up for that. Powe, Asham, Lindberg, Fast, Hrivik down.

I think everyone agrees the top 6 on D is locked up.
Girardi-McD
Staal-MDZ
Moore-Stralman
Bickel i guess? I didn't like what I saw of Falk, but Allen as an extra just to sit does not make sense either.

Big picture. Smart move is both stay together here.
I agree. Miller and kreider are different players. They both compliment each other. Even last year the pair looked good together

AV wants to carry two depth defenseman. He will keep both Falk and Bickel.

Not a fan of Richards, Pyatt, Powe or Bickel. Powe at least will try to hit people and is a decent--not great penalty killer. The 2 or 13 on draws mentioned above in his last game by Richards just seems par for the course. Maybe he's in better shape but it looks to me like he's completely lost his game. He's skating like **** and his play is tentative. Pyatt doesn't stand out at anything. His best asset is his size. Bickel is tough and that's about it. He's a penalty taking machine when he isn't blowing coverages.

I think I would have kept Haley at least for now. Seemed to be doing enough for a 4th line player. Skated well--killed penalties and he's a tough, tough kid. Kristo needed to show more.

Impressed with Conor Allen. No doubt he was nervous but he didn't look like it. Skates and handles the puck well--looks like a solid guy.

Somewhat close but a smaller version and Prust would beat him at least 9 times out of 10. OTOH Derek is just a bit better skater and player than Prust.

The size difference, if any, is minimal at most. The difference is Prust is a better strategic/defensive fighter and loses far less. Hockey skill wise Dorsett is fine.

I disagree. Dorsett's chirping and peskiness, along with his great skating put him ahead of Prust. He can also play 15 minutes a night if needed. Prust is a better PK'er and better fighter, if I had to choose I'd probably take Dorsett of the two. Would rather both though of course lol

i like both these players and to be honest when you factor the salary cap .... Dorsett is the guy you got to go with (in a salary cap world)

The only thing Dorsett does better is hit.

Prust is a better player, fighter, shotblocker, penalty killer and he doesn't take dumb penalties like Dorsett does (which we will get used to soon enough). Prust is also a great leader, already wearing the A in Montreal.

I like Dorsett as a 4th liner a lot. But for anyone to argue they are close in terms of value is a great example of selective memory.

Make a poll excluding Rangers and Habs fans (might be tough to do lol).

Prust will garner twice as many votes, and that's a safe guess.

Prust is a better fighter yeahyeah, Dorsett fights like Rinaldo, driven by pure anger. Dorsett is right below Prust in PK'ing, shotblocking isn't really important, and Dorsett looks much calmer now that he's healthy and engaged. I've liked Dorsett for a LONG time, and the Rangers will love him this season. You can like Prust more, but I personally think Dorsett will make you forget about him this year.

Had higher hopes for Haley. I think he deserves a real shot finally. Would rather him up here than Pyatt, in all honesty.

Like the shape of the 9 D remaining. Hope Allen can beat out one of Bickel or Falk for the final spot in the top 8. Though, it might be more wise to have him playing every day in the AHL, and Bickel up here since he can spot in at wing also

Thing is, an injury to a D (god forbid) and I put in Allen before Falk and Bickel anyway at the rate they've all played.

Your argument is more "player value to the team"... Montreal paid him to be more then a 4th line player and he has been okay so far in a shorten season. Prust was a 3/4th liner with us which is what Dorsett is to us now.

Montreal wanted the get tougher and bigger. That's why he wears the "A" and they over paid to bring him in.

Was the original post I made in response to a cap question? Serious question, I didn't see. If so then you'd definitely have an argument.

If not, then there's no point in meaningless devils advocate.

I've been a fan for some time too. Just think Prust is a better player by a decent margin.

Love that Dorsetts on our 4th line though. The two of them would make one hell of a line.

You are basing Prust off the one career year he had with us. do you remember the year after that, because that type of player is the one that prust is most years.

Their offense is EXTREMELY similar. Dorsett actually hits more then Prust and imo is more effective when he is on the ice.

He takes way more shots and has more natural talent then Prust. He is younger, on a much better contract and brings more to the table then prust imo.

Just because he isn't as good a fighter, doesn't make him a lesser player.

Regardless of contract, if i had to pick one for my team, it would be Dorsett. We got Prust for a career year, one that he will likely not replicate again. Prust is not a 13-15 goal scorer.

Maybe I haven't seen enough of Dorsett yet, but from what I've seen of both players, I'd take Prust over Dorsett and not even think twice.

It's an easy choice.
